ARCHIVED How Not Feel Guilty Going From Eating Strict Vegetarian Diet To Eating Some Meat...em2005 replied to em2005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Thanks for the replies, everyone! It is nice to get some of your experiences/perspectives on this. Today, I was in the grocery store where they do not sell ~organic~ meat/chicken there, just regular meat. I was totally craving some chicken, walked by the aisle, but did not purchase anything because it wasn't organic like I usually buy. That was just an...

ARCHIVED How Not Feel Guilty Going From Eating Strict Vegetarian Diet To Eating Some Meat...em2005 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Hey all, Now, for the past while, I have been eating along the lines of strict vegetarianism as well as being gluten free. My reasons for doing this were (besides not being able to eat gluten/dairy) health reasons. I found that a lot of meat gave me tummy trouble when I ate it. I did still eat moderate amounts of fish. However, during my time eating...

ARCHIVED More Triumph Dining Cardsem2005 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications These cards sound great, but I have a couple of questions: 1) Is there a way to view the cards before you buy them? I went to the website to check them out, but it seems that you can't really take a look at them before ordering. 2) Are there cards that also have a dairy-free/casein-free component? added to them? Would love to know... thanks!

Hello, I am somewhat new to running, although I have been running for the past 6 months or so. Right now I am doing a 10K training clinic and although I do not feel too out of shape and I know I don't look too out of shape (not that it really matters, but still), I am a BACK OF THE PACK runner. I run 4 times a week and I walk about an hour to and from...

Hi! Another Canadian here...from Ottawa! Other than the expense, I never really have difficulty finding food that I can eat. I usually go to the Natural Food Pantry, either in the market, or in Billings Bridge. They usually have good stuff there. Loblaws natural food section also carries good stuff that is gluten-free/CF, etc. Oh, while on the topic...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone On Here Forget That They Have celiac disease Most Of The Time?em2005 replied to em2005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease excellent replies! It is interesting to hear all of your stories. I have also been there, in your boat...always thinking about it and what I can't eat. I guess on some level it is always with me, but as one poster pointed out, my actions and thought processes are so much a part of me...it is just so ingrained in me, that I don't even think twice about...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone On Here Forget That They Have celiac disease Most Of The Time?em2005 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Hello... Haven't posted in...um....almost forever, but thought I would pop my head in again! I've been reading a lot of posts that talk about how people are frustrated an consumed with celiac disease, etc... but does anyone on here hardly *remember* that they have this condition? Don't get me wrong, I am always very vigilant about food I eat, etc, but...

If you're looking for some great restaurants in Toronto that offer gluten-free fare, try this site: Open Original Shared Link It lists heaps of restaruants that provide gluten-free options. Check out "Il Fornello", an Italian restaraunt that offers gluten free pasta, pizza, bruchetta. I've wanted to check it out for ages, but the last time I was...

I've had a terrible problem with rashes over the past few years. The red, scaly kind that got (gets) red after taking showers. It started out on my FEET and the rash came and went over a period of a year and eventually I started getting rashes on my legs, my face, stomach, arms, back, etc. While the rash has left my feet, and gotten better for the most...

ARCHIVED Easy To Eat Healthy In Costa Ricaem2005 replied to sick&tired's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease Ha! We were in Costa Rica at the same time! I just returned home from Costa Rica about a week earlier than you did. I travelled around there for 2 weeks, and I agree...not having to deal with a lot of food issues was GREAT!! I loved eating rice & beans everyday..and those frescos (tropical fruit blended with water or milk) were divine...and so inexpensive...

ARCHIVED Delta Airlines No Longer Offers Gluten Free Mealsem2005 replied to floridanative's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease Hi there, I flew with Delta about 2 weeks ago... I had ordered a gluten-free meal when I bought my tickets and they even had the "special meal" label on my ticket. When it came time to eat, the airline people asked me to choose a meal, as they always do. Apparently, my gluten-free order had not gone through as they weren't even aware I had a special meal...

ARCHIVED Grrr! Having To Eliminate More Foods.... Venting!em2005 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Hello... Haven't been on here in awhile! I am venting! Having visited a naturopath over the past couple of months, I have had gone on an elimination diet. Before going to the naturopath, I had maintained a strict, gluten-free diet for years! However, over the past year or two i've had a lot of trouble w/ stomach upset, despite my gluten-free diet, along...

ARCHIVED Any Good Gluten-free Restaurants In Ottawa?em2005 replied to em2005's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff Ha! Thanks for your post. I am a little late replying... it's funny, I don't come on there boards often, and this particular post hadn't been answered for ages..and I just had a feeling that someone replied to my post! Great...thanks for some suggestions. I called La Dolce Vita one weekend, and alas...they were out of gluten-free pizza!! I ended up finding...

I think you would have to ask what they put in their food. I eat a lot of vegetarian food, and quite often I eat out at this one Indian restaurant, in particular. The stuff that I always order is gluten-free...but other things may not be. I know that indian foods use a lot of chickpea flour in their recipies (at the the foods that I have eaten), so that...

ARCHIVED Any Other Tall Celiacs Out There?em2005 replied to LqrMan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Oh yeah, I'm also taller than most of the women in my family (mom and dad's side). Most of the women in the family are around 5'2-5'4....I guess I got lucky and hit 5'6. Nobody else in my family (either side) has any indication of Celiac Disease, either, so I don't believe their growth was stunted.

ARCHIVED Any Other Tall Celiacs Out There?em2005 replied to LqrMan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I am of average height (5'6) and while I was thinner in high school, I was never really that underweight. By the time I graduated high school, I was about the height I am now and weighed about 120lbs. I wasn't eating gluten free, then. Nowadays, I'm about the exact same weight and height, give or take a few pounds, and this is ten years later. So, basically...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Better Not Eating Meat?em2005 replied to em2005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease It's interesting because I went for allergy testing last fall and got the scratch testing done for several foods..as well as other "allergens". The only thing that came up positive in terms of foods was hazelnuts??!?! It's strange because when I eat dairy, I break out in rashes, but that never came up on the allergy testing. The doctor who interpreted the...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Better Not Eating Meat?em2005 replied to em2005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Well, like I said I do still eat some meat every now and then because I am not a veggie, so I have gotten some protein during the week by way of lean turkey, tuna (yay tuna fish sandwiches!), rice powder protein (you can get it at a health food store), tofu, beans, and then the usual veggies/fruits/etc. when I was strictly vegetarian, I ate a lot of tofu...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Better Not Eating Meat?em2005 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Hello... Just curious if anyone else out there finds themselves better off...er.... gastrointestinally when they don't eat meat. I was vegetarian for a period of about a year, last year, but eventually went back to eating beef/chicken/fish/seafood again because I felt horribly tired on the diet (I also don't eat any dairy and of course I am a gluten-free...

ARCHIVED Any Good Gluten-free Restaurants In Ottawa?em2005 posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff Hello, Just wondering if anyone knows of restaurants in the Ottawa (Canada) region that actually cater to people with celiac disease (or other food allergies). I go out to eat often, but I always have to pick out stuff on the menu that I can eat (this can be a challenge as I do not eat gluten OR dairy). I've heard of restaurants that actually have a gluten...

ARCHIVED Sprouts Harvested "before Gluten Forms"em2005 replied to misskris's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Well, I'm glad I'm getting some more insight into this topic that I posted about a week or so ago! Ha ha... Anyway, obviously I haven't bought any of this green food stuff, as I am just too cautious to risk anything. You know what really irks me?? It's that companies like this can be so carefree when it comes to labelling their products. I, as someone...

ARCHIVED Any Truly Gluten-free, Green Food Supplements?em2005 replied to em2005's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Thanks for your replies. I will look into the GNC stuff. I also got an email back from the company that produces a type of green food product. They stated in the email that: "...All the grasses and sprouts in greens+ are harvested at a tender age before any gluten is formed. You can rest assured the product contains absolutely no gluten. I hope this...

ARCHIVED Any Truly Gluten-free, Green Food Supplements?em2005 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Ok, well...seeing as I don't think the supplements I've bought are truly gluten-free, my next question is: Does anyone know of a really great, gluten-free, green food supplement. I would really like to include something like this in my diet, but I don't want to risk any gluten contamination. If anyone knows of anything like this, I would LOVE to know about...

ARCHIVED Greens Plus Superfood Supplement Gluten-free?em2005 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Hello there, I'm new to this board, but have a question that hopefully someone can answer. I have celiac disease (obviously, that's why i'm here!). I am curious about these green superfood supplements. I recently purchased a small, single serving package of this supplement called "Greens +" (Greens plus) green superfood supplement. It is a powdered...
