ARCHIVED Eating Gluten But Not Reacting?!
bluewhitesky replied to bluewhitesky's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks again squirmingitch for your response. You're right...it's nice to let DS enjoy eating what he wants without itching. I just need to relax about having all the answers for now. He did have a bit of a flare up last night about 2 hours after dinner. No gluten at dinner, so it doesn't totally make sense, but I'm just going to roll with it. edited... -
In a strange turn of events, my DS (age 6) has been eating gluten for a couple of weeks and in the last 5 days has had absolutely no flare up of his rash. I started him eating it again to get his rash to flare up so we can get a biopsy. We went on vacation to NYC for the long weekend and it was wonderful to let him eat what he wanted. I was expecting a flare...

ARCHIVED Dermatologist Appointment Today!
bluewhitesky replied to bluewhitesky's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yep, one foot forward...breathe and focus on the positive: we are going on a trip this weekend and I don't have to pack 5 million things to eat, DS can enjoy restaurants and a few gluteny treats. His itch hasn't been manageable the past few days and he's thrilled to be eating gluten!- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Dermatologist Appointment Today!
bluewhitesky replied to bluewhitesky's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Ahh..if it were only so easy to get a new dermatologist. I'm in Canada. We need a referral from our family doctor. I really had to talk mine into giving me this one because I'd already had the emailed photo consult with the pediatric derm. And usually waiting times for a derm referral are 6-9 months! I got in to this one in only two weeks (his amazing admin...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Dermatologist Appointment Today!
bluewhitesky replied to bluewhitesky's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
squirmingitch, I would love to give you a huge hug right now. You made me feel SO much better! You're right, I will only mention the hydrocortisone if he asks. I'm still kind of unsure of what he expects an active lesion to look like. Yesterday my DS had some open lesions and then lots that were halfway healed. He wasn't actively itchy at the appointment...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Dermatologist Appointment Today!
bluewhitesky replied to bluewhitesky's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Well...we're back. Thanks for the good luck messages! I'm disappointed in the whole visit, but not surprised based on experiences I've read here. First off, I guess that I should be grateful that the derm didn't dismiss DH. He said it looked like a "mild" case (mild, like mildly pregnant? I felt like saying). But then said maybe not because it's...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Is Your Reaction To Being Glutened Always The Same?
bluewhitesky replied to bluewhitesky's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks for the hugs, squirmingitch. Yep, I'm feeling really crappy about glutening him but it's making it all quite clear now. -
ARCHIVED Is Your Reaction To Being Glutened Always The Same?

Well, the itch is definitely back in force tonight. And the stinky gas has made a return. And some wild mood swings and anger that we haven't really seen before. -

My 6 year old son might have DH. I just wrote a novel about it here: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/106990-possible-dh-6-year-old/ He has been gluten-free for 3 weeks and after about 10 days we noticed that his older lesions finally started healing and he even went a few days with no itching at all. We got a dermatologist appt much sooner than... -
ARCHIVED Kid Friendly Restaurants In New York City
bluewhitesky posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We are going to NYC with our kids (age 6 and 4) on Easter Weekend. Any recommendation for restaurants, cafes, bakeries, sandwich places? We want to keep it casual and not to expensive. Picnic-y stuff would even be fine for lunches and casual restaurants for dinner. Just to give you an idea of areas that we'll be in, we're going to try to do the High Line... -
ARCHIVED 6 Year Old With Possible Dh, I Am Attaching Pictures.
bluewhitesky replied to mommiof3boys's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I looked at your pictures. It looks awful. Poor little guy. He's lucky to have you to be on top of it. What is IGM and CS? How much longer until you can take him off gluten again? I'm glad your Dr. recognized it as DH. It sure doesn't look like molluscum. -
ARCHIVED Possible Dh 6-Year Old
bluewhitesky replied to bluewhitesky's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, I was thinking of his asthma today. It's been under control for the last 2 winters, no steroid puffer needed, until a very bad episode this winter, just around the time of his rash worsening, after reintroducing gluten to prepare for his blood tests. I will definitely explain about the steroid usage. I've got it all documented. Plus a few pages... -

To post a photo I uploaded it from my computer to google+ (or you could use flikr, or any other web-based photo site). Then from the online photo you right click and choose "copy url" or "copy image url". Then when you are in your post you click the "image" icon- little white/green square. It will ask you for the image url, you just paste it in. ***oops... -
ARCHIVED Possible Dh 6-Year Old
bluewhitesky replied to bluewhitesky's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thank you so much for your reply, squirmingitch. Yes, you're right about having to go back on gluten for the biopsy. I didn't realize it was for 2 whole months though...there's the common problem though, right? Do I really want to put him through all that itching?? I was already thinking that we wouldn't be able to get the biospy done for a while anyway... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
bluewhitesky replied to cmc811's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am absolutely no expert, but I am a mom of a 6 year old with possible DH. I would probably do the endoscopy, mostly because I want answers. I just posted a photo of my son's rash on the DH page. Does your son's rash look anything like that? -
First of all I would like to thank everyone on these boards for sharing all of their experience and expertise. I have been reading voraciously in hopes of figuring out what is going on with my son, age 6. He has had a rash on his bum (upper cheeks), hips and lower back for over a year. It started with the chicken pox (or so we thought?) in January 2...
