  1. My four year old is starting a new preschool. She was diagnosed with celiac disease last year (blood test & endoscopy), and her then-preschool was amazing. This new preschool is run by the school district, but we pay for it. Would she be eligible for a 504 plan or not until she attends "regular" public school? If she is, what are the pros/cons and...
  2. I found it at Costco: Open Original Shared Link
  3. I found a prepackaged snack with gluten free crackers, sliced apples, hard boiled egg and sunbutter. It is not tested gluten-free (just the crackers), but has no gluten ingredients and is made in the same facility (not on the same line) that processes wheat products. Would you consider it safe?
  4. We are taking an extended family vacation to either Italy or France. Two of us (me and my little one) have celiac disease. From what I have heard, Italy should have lots of safe dining options. Any personal experiences/tips? What about France? Is the awareness the same there?
  5. It lists natural flavorings and spices on the label, so I wrote them. Here's the reply: Thank you for the note. Although our Spiral Hams are not tested for gluten, we can confirm that there are no gluten ingredients used in the processing or glaze of the ham. We hope this information is helpful. Would you eat this or should I worry about cross...
  6. Thanks, everyone! I am looking forward to getting this part behind me.
  7. DD was diagnosed mid November and I took the house gluten free. I liberally ate gluten when out, but that was maybe a few times a week. The end of Dec, I had my blood screen, and the doc called with the results around Jan 20 (by this time I've been gluten light for about 9 weeks) and said my blood screen was positive. Ttg was 30 (>4 range) and EMA was...
  8. Your's, too! I am thinking it is most likely just the healing process. I hadn't realized she was itching before, but I the other day I watched a video of her from July and she was scratching, and then I recalled a few before-diagnosis itching episodes... It just got much worse after. I just want to give her an anti itch pill, but nothing helps.
  9. That's my plan, unless the GI doc convinces me otherwise. I think it would be better to have a definitive diagnosis. I'm just still in shock, as I have no symptoms and was convinced my daughter got it from my husband's genes.
  10. I just got the results: Tissue transglutaminase ab,iga 30 (> or = 4 antibody detected) Immunoglobulin A 138 (81-463 mg/dL) Endomysial antibody scr (iga) w/refl to titer positive Endomysial antibody titer 1:20 (<1:5 titer) My daughter's numbers were much more definitive, but I have...
  11. My daughter was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, so I was screened, although I have no symptoms. My blood test was positive and I am looking for a GI in Orange County for my biopsy (my daughter's is pediatric). Any recommendations? Also, we are gluten free in the home, so I have not been eating gluten regularly (maybe 3 or so times a week for the...
  12. That's a good point about being something new. We are doing gluten free breads and crackers... cookies for occasional treats. I can check ingredients on those. If it's sulfites, would that possibly show up on an allergy test? GI said not to do probiotics. It surprised me, but I was in too much of a daze to ask why not. I was also happy she was doing so...
  13. Yes, that was her main symptom, too. That's where I wonder if it's just going to be that way until she heals or if it's lactose or something else. For months she told me her tummy hurt, but I figured she was just gassy or misread bowel signals. I feel so terrible for not doing anything sooner, and I don't want to make the same mistake again:(
  14. She does not like milk, so that's easy. We do leafy greens, but she loves yogurt & cheese. Should she be okay with hard cheeses or just stay off everything for 6-12 months? Are lactose free yogurts a good idea? What about baked goods with milk in them? Is it worth a trip to an allergist to see if it is a lactose problem? I just feel like I'm flying blind...
  15. My daughter was diagnosed with celiac about 6 weeks ago and has been gluten free since. I have been neurotic about cross contamination, and we are all now gluten free in our home. It obviously has not been long, but she is still complaining of her tummy hurting (mild and not interfering with play, which was the same as her primary symptom prior to diagnosis...
  16. Thank you, LauraTX, for adding peace of mind to our Christmas:) Her diagnosis is recent, and this takes a lot more research than I realized it would. I assumed we'd just degluten the kitchen, read labels and that would be that. I'm finding myself more confused after reading labels and just putting a lot of stuff back on the shelf when I am at all unsure....
  17. I just finished making the batter for our traditional Christmas morning crepes using gluten free all purpose flour and Bob's xanthan gum. Although the package says gluten free, I just read that Bob's xanthan gum is the byproduct of bacteria digesting a wheat product. Should I be concerned? I would hate for my 3 year old daughter (recently diagnosed with celiac...
  18. Updating, in case someone else checks this link in the future... Whole Foods had several brands of cosmetics that are gluten free. I was able to buy her sparkling lipgloss and blush for her ballet recital. She put the lipgloss on every 10 minutes this evening, and fell asleep with it on her nightstand:)
  19. That makes sense. I am not even certain how it ended up in my home. Maybe one of the kids grabbed it while shopping, as I have been checking everything I put in the cart. Yesterday, she found it in the fridge an I told her no, since I wasn't sure. Thanks!
  20. My 3-yr old w/ celiac disease wants to eat Trader Joe's artisan salami. The package lists "natural flavoring" and "spices". I understand that TJ's will call out if derived from wheat, barley and rye, but do not guarantee against cross contamination. Is this in the "not worth it" category? Should I tell her no and buy certified gluten-free salami? Background...
  21. Thank you for the tips! This is all so overwhelming.
  22. Are these okay? Dawn dish soap with oil of olay Tide Shout Softsoap hand soap with aloe Also, my 3 year old (diagnosed w celiac) loves the little girl lipgloss and nail polish (non toxic, no strong smells) sets that they sell at Target and Toys R Us. Is there a specific brand I can buy her? I tried emailing the company on her "Frozen" makeup set...
  23. We didn't do the genetic tests. Should we still do that regardless of the results? I did take her off gluten already. GI said it was fine a few days before the biopsy, as her symptoms (diarrhea, vomiting, pain) were worsening and she could not eat anything. I do not see how I could keep her on gluten now. She would end up in a hospital. So, either way,...
  24. I posted last week about my three year old, who had high #s on all blood tests: Tissue transglutaminase ab, iga >100 (> or + 4 antibody detected) Immunoglobulin A 126 (reference range 24-121 m/g) Gliadin (deamidated) AB (IGA) >100 (> or = 20 units antibody detected) endomysial antibody screen (IGA) positive Endomysial antibody titer 1:16...
  25. How crazy do I need to go with getting my home gluten free? I am giving away all gluten containing food and possibly cross contaminated foods like sugar and PB. For cooking items, I am cleaning the oven and everything in the kitchen, getting rid of the toaster, plastic containers, spatulas, plastic mixing bowls, marble rolling pin, cookie cutters, sandwich...
