  1.     Yes, he has come back twice positive on the reducing substance test, which apparently means he is lactose intolerant. But he has been dairy free for about a year now, he does drink a lot of lactaid though. Could this still be affecting him even without the lactose?
  2. I have always wondered how these students are financed. I always thought it would be great to host, but we couldn't afford to feed / entertain a teenager. Do they receive money from their families or do you have to pay for all their needs? Thanks.
  3. So, I had a thread a couple weeks ago about my son not seeming to get over a stomach bug / or possibly being glutened. The diahrrea finally ended a few days ago, at which time the constipation kicked back in. Now he is having just slightly loose, close to normal stools. But I have been wondering about the color of his stools. He has never (since all this...
  4. Thanks everyone..... he is still suffering and this is a week and a half now. My ped said to come back if it wasn't gone in a couple of days, but I am pretty sure that will just be a waste of another $35. It has gotten somewhat better, but is not gone. For example, instead of watery loose stools, it is now on to ribbon like explosions, but he is crying...
  5. I ended up taking him to the dr on Friday because he threw up that morning and he has never ever thrown up. So I was figuring it was something else, not gluten related. The dr said that there was a bug going around and that it was lasting about 5-7 days (he was already day 7 at that point). The dr thought he had the bug because of the throwing up.... ...
  6. It is still continuing. He is having small amounts of diarrhea every time he is put on the potty (which is often since he is only 2). Then in the evening when I put him in a diaper leading up to bed he has a large very loose stool, and then repeats a few times. Sometimes waking up during the night to do it. But this morning, right after he had a big really...
  7. First off, we don't even know for sure that my son has celiac disease, so we are currently in a trial period of being gluten free (a little over a month now). The odd thing is that he was NOT having symptoms(diarrhea) for months while eating gluten daily (leading up to biopsy). But since last Friday he has had numerous bouts of diarrhea every day. It has...
  8. I am not the expert that most of the people on here are, but I just wanted to say welcome and I am glad you have found relief. Since no one has answered yet, I will attempt to answer you to the best of my knowledge . How serious are you about wanting / needing a diagnosis? If you don't mind treating yourself as a celiac for the rest of your life ...
  9. At this point we have so many medical bills and can't even tell you how much of what they paid for. But I know they atleast paid a portion of it because I wasn't asked to pay upfront or anything. Our son came back positive for both of the main genes.
  10. That's great to hear that her symptoms are doing better, and that she is growing. It seems as though the diet is helping her; I guess the only question is "NCGS" or "celiac". One thing I am not sure of, maybe someone else can answer this, is do kids have the growth issues with NCGS that they do with celiac? Since growth has been an issue for us as well...
  11. Wow, that is great to hear that she is growing well. Do you feel confident that the last height check was accurate as well? Am I understanding right that the growth has come since going gluten free? We were told by our immunologist, if our son's growth picks back up again after going gluten free, that would be enough for her to diagnose him (along with...
  12. Thanks for the encouragment . I do have the range that was given by my lab.....It was 533 - something high. His number this time was a 513. He only had it tested once before and I believe it was a 566 then. I just wasn't sure if I should be trusting this range or if he is really ok with this number. So many of the other ranges were much lower for a ...
  13. Thanks for the information, you are always so helpful. I googled and looked at numerous "normal reference ranges" and they all seem different. Some of them have him being low (out of range) an some of them have him being normal on the lower end of the range. I am just having a hard time understanding why he has those positive ttg igg test (twice - once...
  14. So sorry to have to start yet another thread, but I am pretty sure y'all will have some insight for me on this one..... (by the way, sweat test results will hopefully be here today) After talking to the nurse and her re-assuring me that "everything was normal, except his low iga", I requested a copy of his results. I was pretty suprised to notice that...
  15. Ya, I agree, it is. Today I was reading something about celiac can cause a false positive....."Oh great!!!" Thanks for your support.
