  1. I have been looking for something to print for my daycare. Something that was not too wordy but that explained what celiac was and a little about cross contamination. Everything I keep pulling up is too long, and not really what I am looking for. Does anyone have a recourse that is good to give to schools (that is short enough for them to actually take...
  2. Your story sounds so familiar to ours..... although my little boy has never been chubby, he has managed to stay a pretty normal weight. People look at him and say, "he looks healthy, he doesn't look small", but his growth (height wise) plumetted. His whole first year of life he was around the 55% for height. During the six months where he quit growing...
  3. Oh ya.....my son also had a HUGE diet back when he was having his worst symptoms. The daycare would comment on how he ate like 10 nuggets at a time(this was when he was like 15 months old)! I was starting to get frustrated that they were feeding him so much but at the same time, he wasn't growing very well!
  4. You're welcome! It is really nice to have people to talk to, especially ones that are going through it with their little ones. That is great that you are noticing obvious improvements,,,,,that is what we were hoping for, but honestly didn't get, even after 5 months. The biggest change was an increase in height growth, but that takes a while to notice,...
  5. I would have never imagined the long drawn out process this was going to be when we first went to the GI. Unfortunately this disease is not cut and dry......and I think the younger they are, the even harder it is. I don't wish celiac on your little one, but I do wish that you get results much easier than we do!! I will try to explain our situation...
  6. I agree, that in theory, what she said makes sense, but if that was true wouldn't it be a common issue or a well - known fact, considering how many celiacs do have low or absent IGA? You're right it is a shame, especially with someone so little who can't even tell you if he is feeling better / worse etc. Thanks again!
  7. Thanks everyone..... I was thinking the same thing as far as trusting the immunologist, but I was curious why everyone seems to go to a GI, considering it is an autoimmune disease??? ( I guess the symptoms just lead them there....) We did officially go back gluten free this weekend. But I still feel like we need a diagnosis, or an answer. As for...
  8. Hope you get some answers soon! We have been looking for answers for my little guy since he was 15 months, he is now 28 months and we are still at a "maybe celiac" diagnosis. I can't believe your GI tried to tell you young children can't be celiac?! I agree that you should get a second opinion.....We just got done with our second opinion and second endoscopy...
  9. Thanks everyone....we are going to go ahead and go gluten free again. But it is just so hard not knowing for sure. Especially since there was no obvious change in him when we went gluten free the first time. I just feel like we are going to want some kind of answer, or we will be doubting it forever..... Looking back I should have asked her why she...
  10. Y'all have been so helpful on this forum..... and now I am back for more help. I thought we were moving past some of the concerns and possibly ruling out celiac disease, BUT as you can see I am back. The GI had "ruled out" celiac (this was our second opinion / she was much more knowledgeable). We finally had ALL celiac bloodtest come back negative ...
  11. You're right it is really frustrating when it is happening to your child, especially a child that can't even talk. I can't ask him how are you feeling, or explain to him the things he's been having to go through. But I am still grateful for his health; I know there are parents out there dealing with life threatening illness in their children, so I try to...
  12. Oh wow! I don't think my little guy will ever be that tall! Thanks, he is a handful . Hope your sons results come back negative. What symptoms lead to him being tested as a child, if you don't mind me asking?
  13. For now, we are continuing a normal diet. It is just so hard to follow if it is not necessary. But we will be watching him like a hawk for any reason to believe he should be back on the diet. Going to see an immunologist this month and hopefully they can give us some more answers..... Thanks for everything.
  14. Thanks everyone!
  15. What you are saying is what I am worried about with my son. I want to feel confident that he really doesn't have it.... And I do trust the GI we have now, but I do worry that we are missing something. But for now I just have to trust the results. How did your son's recent labs turn out?
  16. I think each lab can be different, but for example, my son's ttg igg was "slightly elevated" the first time he had it done and it was a 7, the second time it was a 15 (clear positive) and the last time is was .5 (negative). The range for all of these labs was <6 was considered "normal", Between 6 and 8 was like a mild positive and >8 was positive....
  17. Ok, the results are in. We are just waiting for the "enzyme analysis" (not really even sure what exactly that is looking for), but the biopsies came back completely clean. The doctor feels confident in saying that he does NOT have celiac disease. To be honest, I am shocked. I honestly thought she was going to find something, but at the same time, he has...
  18. Did he tell you that just from what he saw during the procedure, or after seeing the biopsy results? Thanks...
  19. We finally had my son's endoscopy today. Of course we won't know much until the biopsy comes back. They did 8 this time, so hopefully it will be more reliable. They did mention that there was a spot that appeared more smooth on the duodenum, which would be more consistent with celiac, but that could just be like "human error". She said if they weren't...
  20. I am not an expert by any means, in fact I am on here myself for answers, but since no one has replied to you yet..... The IGA is not a celiac test, it just shows you that the other celiac test that are based on iga are accurate. Since you were in normal range for your total iga, the first test you mentioned is accurate (if you would have been iga deficient...
  21. My son is not biological to me. So we do not have any members with celiac. If he does have it, we will for sure have his brother tested (they are biological).
  22. I understand what you are saying. I know it is possible; at this time I don't have any reason to think I do. Although I know the anemia can be a symptom in itself. I guess with the heavy bleeding, it seems like the anemia is not really "unexplained". That is what seems so hard about it, how do you know when you should say "test me for celiac". Since...
  23. Thank you ladies! You are so helpful. I called my clinic to re-schedule my hematology follow up that I was supposed to be having in March. I asked if I could just have everything re-checked instead of going in to talk to him again, and they said that would be fine. So they ordered the CBC, ferratin level and something else. I asked the nurse if there...
  24. Sorry that I ask so many questions! And thanks to all of you who are always so helpful! By the way, my sons endoscopy / colonoscopy got cancelled because he was put on a long regiment of antibiotics for a sinus infections. So now, we have to wait and wait some more. It is re-scheduled for the 24th of this month. He is happily eating gluten and seems...
  25. Sorry you are going through this. It is so hard to not know what is going on with a little one, especially when they can't talk to you! We are in the process of trying to figure out what is going on with my just turned two year old. He had loose stools for almost a year before suddenly having constipation. He tested postive for one of the celiac test...
