Paper Plates?
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would assume that his GI doctor will run the blood tests at some point before his first 6 month followup in November to see if the diet is working. Unfortunately when he was initially tested they only ran the iga ttg and igg ttg without running either DGP test. Which one should have a faster decline? Here's what his original results were Tissue Transglutaminase... -

play-doh was the first things addressed. They currently use crayola model magic instead of play-doh even though it's not quite the same. They are in the process of purchasing gluten free dough. http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Product=7566 So far we have had a pretty good week compared to last week. I also purchased... -
Paper Plates?

I'm just happy paper plates are safe. But if dishwashers and vegetables and fruit are suspect should I assume steak isn't gluten free if a cow that ate straw that was grown near wheat? And I don't even want to think about the milk -

Is putting the animals on a gluten free diet (especially the dog) overreacting? She has tendency to try to sneak in kisses. The cats not so much. I don't want to drive myself nuts looking for hidden sources of gluten but I want to make sure I am doing what I can to keep him safe. As far as the dishwasher goes, with the exception of a crumb of bread... -

I think daycare is probably the obvious source of contamination but I want to eliminate everything else before I cross that bridge. I have already eluded to the fact that I think he is being contaminated with gluten somewhere and I asked the director to observe more at mealtimes to see if she can see a pattern. If I were to guess, they are touching each... -

Has anyone used Taste of the Wild pet food? It's pretty popular on Amazon and gets pretty good ratings everywhere I have seen. We live in a rural area and our options are pretty limited for places to purchase any specialty items. We only have Walmart, Tractor Supply and local grocery stores. -
Paper Plates?

Wow. There are so many scenarios I didn't even think of. So it's still narrowed down to my husband, dog, cats or somewhere at daycare. I guess I start at the beginning and eliminate the risks one by one and see where we are. My husbands beer and bread are easy. I just stop buying them. He can drink my Strongbow or finish off the 23 beers in the case... -
Paper Plates?

Good to know about paper plates. I really felt bad when I figured it was me microwaving his food on paper plates that was glutening him. He has only been gluten free since May and we noticed a difference in his behavior almost immediately. He was happier, had more energy and was more playful than before. But since about mid-July he has been getting... -
I'm trying to find a hidden source of gluten that my son has been ingesting for at least a month how. I have been driving myself nuts trying to figure out where we are going wrong but can't for the life of me figure it out. I have been accusing daycare of silently glutening him but I've watched them make his food and watched them eat and nothing stood out...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Play Dough
albauer94 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Does anyone have any suggestions for gluten free play dough? I know there are plenty of recipes out there but I would rather buy one so we have containers and don't have to mess with plastic bags that rip and let it dry out. Besides I don't have much luck with having any homemade doughs or slimes turning out bright colored. I saw Colorations brand but... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free, But Still Tiny

Has his doctor run any other tests? My nephew was misdiagnosed for probably around 6 years. We think it started about the time he turned 5 but he wasn't diagnosed until he was at least 11. When he was 8 he was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroidits after not growing at all since he was 5 1/2. Then at 12 found out he was not producing any growth hormone... -
ARCHIVED When Will Growth Go Back To Normal? Do All Kids Have Catch Up Growth?
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I feel better knowing that his growth is normal for a celiac child. At his doctor's appointment this week for an unrelated matter, the growth chart height for weight came up that he is now in the 84th percentile for BMI and he is by no means even the least bit chunky other than his belly that has not quite gone away since going gluten free but it's about... -
ARCHIVED When Will Growth Go Back To Normal? Do All Kids Have Catch Up Growth?
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks. I suppose I should think of it as only 3 months instead of 5 since he was not gluten free for the first two months and I'm sure he wasn't absorbing any nutrients. And as much as it sucks that he was diagnosed with celiac at 3, you're right, I'm glad it wasn't five or ten years from now after it triggers who knows how many other problems. Maybe... -
My 3 year old son was diagnosed with celiac at the beginning of May. He went from 75th percentile in height and weight to the 10th percentile since he was around 18 months old. Between 2 and 3 he only grew about 1.5 inches and actually lost a half pound. Since his 3 year appointment in March until today at an appointment with his regular pediatrician,...

ARCHIVED No Official Diagnosis, But....
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Maybe I will call the GI and make an appointment to talk at the very least. Maybe he has some compelling reasons to get tested. At this point, all I really know is eating gluten makes me feel like crap. The chiropractor I went to pretty much said that regardless of whether I stopped eating now or later, I would most likely develop celiac if I didn't already... -
ARCHIVED Daycare And 504 Plan
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a meeting set with the director and nurse on Tuesday. I will have to get my ducks in a row and figure out how they can make things safer for my son. Who knows maybe if I'm lucky someone will have done some research and actually understand what celiac is and have some suggestions. -
ARCHIVED No Official Diagnosis, But....
albauer94 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had problems most of my life that I now know are symptoms of celiac (IBS, GERD, mouth ulcers, headaches, mystery rashes, infertility, miscarriages, I could keep going but I'll stop). Anyhow in February I saw a chiropractor/nutritionist because I was totally exhausted and just all around felt like crap. He suspected it was gut related and ran a organic... -
ARCHIVED Daycare And 504 Plan
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm still waiting for the director to call me back with a date to meet with her and the nurse about Caden. I'm debating on pushing off the meeting until after we meet with the dietitian and GI doctor at Children's Hospital on the 11th. Until then we can keep doing what we are doing and be grateful his teachers are diligent about keeping him safe. -
ARCHIVED Daycare And 504 Plan
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I guess you're right about worrying more about calories than whether they are getting all four food groups in every meal. Right now I'm concentrating on getting food in him. Since he turned 2 last March, he has grown less than 1 inch, lost a half pound and his bone age is 1 year behind. I will just be happy if he starts growing again. -
ARCHIVED Daycare And 504 Plan
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What kind of things do you send for lunch? Breakfast is a bit easier since breakfast foods don't tend to have meat/starch/veggie/fruit type of menu. This morning I sent him in frozen pancakes that I made last night with a cup of syrup. He also likes yogurt, fruit and cereal so even without a toaster, I guess breakfasts don't look too bad. But lunch... -
ARCHIVED Daycare And 504 Plan
albauer94 replied to albauer94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have tried to google 504 plan in Pennsylvania and haven't seen much about daycare centers. I do know they receive money for meals but I don't know if that is enough. I was confused whether it has to be a public school or not. I think more than anything, I want to make sure the arts and craft supplies are safe and I would like to do things like bring... -
ARCHIVED Daycare And 504 Plan
albauer94 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 3 year old son was diagnosed with celiac (blood and biopsy) at the beginning of this month. I provided his daycare's center director with a letter from his doctor stating his diagnosis and the need to adhere to a strict gluten free diet. After two weeks of putting me off, nobody has mentioned a 504 plan for my son. The daycare center is a private non profit...
