  1. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I did, too. My dermatologist said that sometimes after an illness, or during, the shedding phase of hair growth and fall out gets all topsy turvy and the hair just keeps on shedding. Usually with time and better health, this re-balances and slowly but surely the pattern returns to normal. She counseled me, as others have encouraged you, to get a check up looking at total health including thyroid, vit. D, etc, which you've done. She also said that some people have an autoimmune disease where the scalp feels burning and hair loss occurs. This sounded like what was happening to me. Burning, intense soreness and hair loss. I read that this can be Lichen Planopilaris. I was not diagnosed with this, it's just something I wondered about as the description fit what my dermatologist had described. What helped me is getting a very short haircut and washing my hair daily or every other day with a shampoo that contained zinc pyrithione. I also quit dairy as I felt that was inflammatory for me. I don't know if I'll continue to get periodic flare ups of this, but I wanted to send you encouragement and empathy. Best wishes, it's hard to go through!

  2. There is a low starch diet that is paleo with reduced or eliminated starch for people with ankylosing spondylitis, or any of the spondyloarthropathies. It was developed by Dr. Ebringer in London so it was at first known as the London Low Starch Diet. You can find out more information about it at a support group called Kickas dot org. I have axial spondyloarthritis and I do much better not simply gluten free, but low starch (grain free, legume free, and reduced starchy veggies and fruit). Best wishes!

  3. If this is helpful:

My local public library had a copy of Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall.

There is a Facebook group, I believe it is easily found by searching SCD Diet, and it's a closed group.

If you go directly to the official website of Breaking the Vicious Cycle, there's lots of information for free available, including the basics about the intro diet and beyond.

I would go to the original source of this diet rather than go to other groups/books who have perhaps veered away from Elaine Gottschall's fundamentals. Best wishes to you! :)
