  1. Found mine at Wegman's in NJ the other day.
  2. We got the tests repeated last month and I am relieved to say everything came back negative. Thanks!
  3. Last night my daughter and her friends came back from trick-or-treating and spread all their candy out on the floor. My daughter, who is 13 and pretty aware of what she can and can't eat, was dutifully trading her Kit Kats and Butterfinger Crisps away for safe stuff like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Tootsie Rolls. After a bit I got down on the floor to...
  4. About 8 weeks ago, after our teenager daughter was diagnosed, we got our 10-year-old son tested. Only yesterday did I realize that they ran the wrong tests. His total IgA serum came back normal, which means he is NOT IgA deficient, but they went ahead and ran the Deamidated Gliadin IgG and the TTG IgG tests on him. No IgA tests at all. Now I'm mildly panicked...
  5. Yes, sorry, I am positive for DQA1*05/DQB1*2. It says both DQA1 (*0501 or *0505) and DQB1 (*0201 or *0202) were detected. Both hubby and son are positive only for DQA1 (*0501 or *0505), not the beta part of that gene. Hubby also is positive for DQ8, but that wasn't broken down into alleles.
  6. OK, our gene tests from Kimball finally came back and I was able to see exactly which genes we all had. My results: I am positive for both DQ2 alleles (A and but negative for DQ8. Hubby is positive for DQA1 505 or 501 and negative for DQB, and also positive for DQ8. Our son is positive only for the DQA1 505 or 501 allele, so the lab indicated that he is...
  7. My 13-year-old daughter was diagnosed with celiac two months ago. My husband, 10-year-old son and I immediately got blood tests which revealed that none of us were manufacturing gluten antibodies. All three of us feel fine after eating gluten, and although my son is short, he has been growing regularly since birth. For the past few years he has been at 2...
  8. Thank you!!! I'm glad to hear that everyone thinks my in-laws are being accommodating. I wanted to believe that. I think you're right--a lot of it is just misunderstanding and not knowing what is safe and what isn't. I guess I expected my entire extended family to start Googling celiac and to automatically know what has gluten and what doesn't. But that's...
  9. My 13-year-old was just diagnosed a month and a half ago. So far things are going pretty well, but I'm feeling a little irked over something and want opinions. A few weeks after her diagnosis we were invited to my husband's sister for a family birthday party. She was good about providing safe BBQ food for my daughter--even a separate grill--but then there...
  10. I did buy new pots and pans and cutting boards for my newly diagnosed teenage daughter, but not utensils. Wouldn't a good run through the dishwasher make knives and other utensils safe??? I understand that gluten can hide in cookware scratches, but I don't understand how gluten can stay on a knife or fork once it's washed. Also, wouldn't a few washings eventually...
  11. Thanks, everyone. Actually, I have no real way of knowing if she's gotten gluten before because she doesn't have bad reactions. She got kind of tired after eating the pasta, and a bit bloated, but that was it. Actually, there was one other little incident about a week and a half into her gluten-free diet....at camp they served ice-cream sandwiches, and without...
  12. Our 13-year-old daughter was diagnosed 6.5 weeks ago and had been doing great on the gluten-free diet ever since! Then two nights ago she had a setback. I take partial responsibility. We had company, and I mentioned to her that I was serving that great gluten-free pasta I had found the other day (Bi-Aglut). But I neglected to mention that I also was serving...

    ARCHIVED Aruba

Just returned from a week in Aruba and thought I'd share. Our 13-year-old daughter was recently diagnosed and I was nervous. Did my research before we left and called or e-mailed a few places. While she's not sensitive and wouldn't necessarily know if she got glutened, we felt the restaurants we visited were very attentive and caring. The manager at El Gaucho...
  14. So...how did it go????
