ARCHIVED Which gluten-free Brands Do You Trust 100%?Dietcokehead posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs After finding that Wellshire Farm nuggets are not exactly gluten-free, I am terrified to feed my son anything else we have! Are there certain brands that are known for being reliably gluten free even when tested? Glutino? Any others? How do we get information about PPM and other testing? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Being Glutened And Developing Ocd?Dietcokehead posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders My 7 year old son has developed OCD in the past few months. Coincidentally, we had a scope scheduled for him on Friday to check things out since he has been complaining of stomach aches. He has blunted villi and flattened folds again! He's been gluten-free since 2004 so I am appalled. (I blame the Wellshire Farm nuggets that are NOT actually gluten-free)...

ARCHIVED Wellshire Kids' Gluten-free Products Have Gluten!Dietcokehead replied to Kibbie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I am just sick reading this. My 7 year old son just had a scope to check on stomachaches. He's been gluten-free since 2004. He has blunted villi again and flattened folds. He eats these nuggets ALL THE TIME. I could just scream! Also, he has recently developed OCD and we are now wondering if the 2 things could be related? Maybe I need to start another thread...

ARCHIVED Baking A Cake - 123 Gluten Free ?Dietcokehead posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Hi all! I am baking a cake for my son's 5th b-day tomorrow. I found a cake mix that is 123 Gluten Free Chocolate Pound Cake Mix. Looks pretty simple but the directions call for it to be baked in a bundt cake pan. I know my son will reject the bundt idea, he wants a "regular" rectangular cake. Any ideas if I can just make it in a 9 x 13 pan instead?? THANKS...

ARCHIVED Time For School....how Do I Choose One?Dietcokehead replied to debbie-doodles's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I have never considered not putting my son in the school we had planned for him before he was diagnosed. It's the public school in our neighborhood. Teachers are used to dealing with all sorts of allergies, special needs, etc. Your daughter will be well aware by the time she is ready for kindergarten that she shouldnt eat anything that is not sent from...

ARCHIVED Going Gluten FreeDietcokehead replied to betsy7's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Hi Betsy! My son was 3 1/2 when diagnosed. His bloodwork was negative but biopsy was positive. He had severe anemia, lethargy, diarrhea, stomachaches, was irritable and always hungry. He was in the 3% for weight and 10% for height with giant bloated belly as well. Since going gluten free he is like a completely new child! I am so grateful we were able...

ARCHIVED Do I Test My Kids?Dietcokehead replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I dont think that getting a blood test is a "horrible" experience. It's unpleasant but if done by an experienced nurse is over quickly. My 4 year old celiac son has had a ton of blood draws and rarely even cries for them. My daughter is tested every year and it's not been bad. Yes, it hurts but it's very necessary, IMO.

ARCHIVED Bday PartiesDietcokehead replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Hi! I always talk to the host and explain the situation, and then ask if it's ok for my son to bring brownies to share. That way they're prepared at home, but he can enjoy the same foods as his friends if they would like one too. I always ask if they have decided on if there will be ice cream and what brand it is. A lot of vanilla is ok, I keep it simple...

ARCHIVED AnemicDietcokehead replied to mrsnj91's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Yes! This was my son's first issue that started us toward diagnosis. He was severely anemic with little improvement even with 2 times daily iron supplements.

ARCHIVED Celebrate!Dietcokehead replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Awesome!!! It was so exciting for us when our little boy started to GROW!! It was like a miracle, we kept marking his progress on teh back of a closet door to keep track. He gained weight too and every pound made me so happy. I made sure to keep taking pics to document, so I wouldnt ever forget how sick he was and how much the gluten-free diet changed his...

ARCHIVED What's The General Consensus On Intestinal Biospy?Dietcokehead replied to celiacsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs My son's bloodwork was negative but biopsy was positive. I would say that if your child has positive bloodwork and has been ill and showing symptoms of celiac disease I wouldnt bother with the biospy *unless* you feel you are going to wonder in the future. It was a very easy procedure for my son, recovery was fast, and we did a rebiopsy in 6 mos that went...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free CrackersDietcokehead replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Mi-Del has animal crackers and other "kid-type" products that are really good. My son loves sesame rice crackers, they taste salty like a chip!

ARCHIVED New Here... Just Saying HelloDietcokehead replied to Sagesmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Welcome! I have an almost 5 year old son too. He was diagnosed at age 3. I spent a lot of time stressing about how we were going to make this work, what was I going to feed him, etc. Well now it's second nature most of the time and no big deal. You will be ok and your son will be so much healthier once he has been gluten-free for a while! Do you...

ARCHIVED Symptoms In Toddlers?Dietcokehead replied to prinsessa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs The earlier you can get your kdis diagnosed, the easier it will be on everyone to adjust to the new diet. My son was diagnosed at 3 and he does remember fruit loops but besides that, all he can remember is being gluten free! Don't change their diet yet though, it is important to be on a regular gluten diet when doing the blood tests for the most accurate...

ARCHIVED Trying To Understand Celiac Test Results...?Dietcokehead replied to vita1978's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Hi, I am sorry that your son is having these health issues. My son started having issues when he was 2 and was finally diagnosed at 3. His bloodwork was negative. Completely negative. However, I had a wonderful GI doc that did a biopsy anyway which showed definite signs of Celiac Disease. Bloodwork in young children is not always reliable so don't put...

ARCHIVED New Mcd Statement -- Fries Are gluten-freeDietcokehead replied to lovegrov's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants I just went to the McDonalds website to see what it said there. On their allergen/sensitivites list they didnt have anything indicated for the fries. But, the fries are not on their "gluten free" list. What gives???
-
Hi guys! Like a lot of you I am crushed to hear about the possibility of gluten in the fries. I have been giving them to my 4 year old for over a year now and assuming they were safe. I am really hoping for some good news when the testing comes back with a definite answer. Anyway, another mom in my ROCK (celiac Kids) group said that she has been giving...
