  1. WE have been consulting with a new GI. He did some tests regarding Tim's genetics. Today he called and said that Tim has neither gene for celiac. It is virtually impossible for him to have it! We have thought since March that celiac was the problem. Turns out it is a sever wheat allergy that shows up outside of the regular IG testing for allergies. So instead...
  2. We have been here in texas now for 2 weeks. We have been having a hard time finding some good food for Tim. I finally found a whole foods market down town. I am SO happy. We went yesterday and spent SO much! But he needs it. We even found the pretzels by ener-g that he loves so much. That is great news for a 20 month old! My hubby is being tested this week...
  3. Well, here we are in Texas. It just so happens that 2 of the internal med docs that my dh works with are celiac. He told them about Tim our son. THey asked if dh had been tested he said yes and told them it was negative. Then they checked the system to see what tests were done. apparently it was the WRONG one! So they ordered other tests for him. 3 of them...
  4. Our doctor emailed us with the enterolab results. Tim is 12. Normal is 10. He is positive for celiac. I knew from his positive response to the diet change that he was celiac but now that we have confirmation that last little lingering bit of hope that the problem is really something else has been dashed. It makes me sad. I know that is probably silly. He...
  5. I am freaking out here. I am doing so bad about my sons diet. At least that is how I feel. He is basically gluten-free. I find a few things every now and again that are not gluten-free that I am giving him. like today my neighbor made us rice Crispie treats. Then come to find out that are made with malt flavoring. Is this gluten???? He LOVES that cereal and...
  6. There are so many things you can do for low supply. Pump is one of them. Eat oatmeal one x per day. Take fenugreek. Take mothers milk tea. Have you tried a lactaid? It is a tube that attaches to your breast on one end and has a filled container on the other. THat way when you feed her she is getting nutrients, your breasts are being stimulated and it will...

    ARCHIVED A Puzzle!

For about 2 months or more now my 18 month old has 2 spots on his chin that WILL NOT HEAL! The ped said it was dry skin, bad ecxema. So we tried hydrocortisone. Did not work although it took away the itch. Then she gave me Elidel. Did not work. Makes it fade a little but not totally. Now it is not working at all! The spots are as big as a dime. Very red,...
  9. As some of you know I am studying to become a lactation consultant. My son is celiac (18 months)and breastfed. I was just reading on one of my professional sites about mothers who have celiac. We all know that breastfeeding is crucial to a baby's health especially to those who have or could have celiac (not to mention everyother germ and disease out there...
  10. Hey girl! I was just reading all your posts about keeping up breastmilk etc. You HAVE to keep taking in enough calories in order to keep up production. I think the diet you were on was too restrictive. I think you really hit on something when it comes to her gagging being caused from her heart. I would run with that. Reintroduce foods back into your diet...
  11. I made an appointment with my sons pediatrician. I told her about enterolab. She looked into it and got our local lab at the clinic involved then they pushed it through tricare. It is cheaper then a biopsy and a great way to diagnose kids. So, I just took the sample up to the lab today for them to send off to enterolab. Then they will work directly with...
  12. I asked our doctor about enterolab testing since my 18 month old blood tests all came back inconclusive. She looked into it. Had our lab look into it and tricare approved it! I am SO happy. They are doing the complete workup too! He got glutened and had a hard night last night so I can't wait for a final diagnosis. Now the hard part is getting a clean stool...
  13. could you send it to us too please? maplecat@earthlink.net
  14. I wanted to add: have you tried any alternative medicines? Like NAET.com? My friend tried this for her very, veryvery allergic son and it worked. Are you working with a lactation consultant with the pumping issues? This could prove to be invaluable. Also check out LLLI.org forum on breastfeeding very ill children.
  15. Okay, here are a few thoughts that came to me as I read all of these posts. #1-Breastmilk is exactly what she needs right now. She has proven that. Have you thought about doner milk from a milk bank? #2- YOu are doing great with the pumping. What a hard schedule you are on with that! You go girl! Do you have a support group you can lean on like La Leche...
  16. Cheri Why dont you like the energ egg replacer? I have never had a problem with it. In fact we just made cookies with it and they turned out great!
  17. I would use the Energ poweder. It works great for baking. I agree that bf has kept my son alive as well. It was the ONLY thing that he was digesting. I remember feeling so upset before his diagnosis b/c he wanted to nurse every 2 hours, it was like having a newborn. But now I know he was just HUNGRY! Poor baby! I am glad I did not wean him. Breastmilk is...
  18. My 17 month old has egg allergy. For baking we use ENERG egg replacer powder which is also gluten free. It works great! Even made a birthday cake with it! I also use 1/4 C applesauce for 1 egg when baking things like cookies. My research also shows that: For Binder: 1/2 large mashed banana 1/4 C pureed prunes 1 TBLS flaxseed mixed with 3 TBS water...
  19. He was diagnosed at 15 months. Diagnosis was from positive results of gluten-free diet. Everything has turned around and is perfect except for his weight. He gained 1/2 pound right after dx and then lost it about a week ago. He hasnt gained anything since he was 8 months old except that 1/2 pound. Now it is gone and I am totally stressed! He has grown a full...
  20. Is vinager safe? Ketchup? All that kinda stuff? Thanks Taffy
  21. Calcium lactate made my dd have an allergic reaction every time she had it. She has dairy allergy. So even though it was listed I KNOW it made her react with a dairy reaction. Taffy
  22. I have an interesting family. My daughter and husband are dairy allergic. My son is celiac and egg allergy. We are also vegetarians. I found the the tofu pups at our grocery store and that made me SO happy to be able to give him hotdogs again! Burgers are a little harder. So for you vegetarians out there what do you eat? What brands have you found that excite...
  23. We all got out blood tests back. My DD and I are negative. My Son is inconclusive although responding very well to the diet. My DH test is borderline. Just barely negative. What does that mean? Are the tests as inconclusive for adults as they are for kids? What should we do now?
  24. I tried to make a pizza from buckwheat flour. All I have to say is that it tastes like dirt. Looks like mud and sticks to your fingers like cement! It tasted bad too! Anybody have any luck with any other type of flour?
  25. I am so happ! My son has been off of gluten for a little over a week. I weighed him this morning and he has gained a half pound! I know that doesnt sound like much... he lost 1 1/2 pounds b/f diagnosis and before that he had been th same weight for 7 months. He is 15 months old. I am so pleased!
