  1. I've just started using Royal Oak brand, it is natural wood. You can light it with lighter fluid or paper. I think it makes the food taste a lot better than the charcoal briquets.
  2. I've had the beef lasagna and my husband even liked it. It is a little on the bland side, but some extra oregano and red pepper and it was great!

    ARCHIVED Mayo Clinic Celiac Center

I was referred there by my gastro doc and a surgeon. They thought I was having biliary problems because my liver enzymes were elevated and every time I ate something fatty I got severe right upper quadrant pain and nausea. My gastro doc wanted to send me there after an ERCP that went bad (sprained abdominal muscles) and a negative enteroclysis (looking...
  4. Judy05, I called Schwan's headquarters after I was diagnosed to ask about their modified food starch and they stated it is from corn. So far I haven't had any trouble with CC, but I am still new and feeling icky some days (been on the diet for 2 1/2 months and got glutened for sure once). Thankfully most of their ice cream is gluten free - other than...
  5. I wasn't real shaky when I tested, but felt "odd". I did have my thyroid checked a year ago and it was okay. I've had it checked off and on because of the fatigue, dry skin and being overweight. I have lost about 30 pounds over the last four years, so I'm not considered obese anymore, but I do eat a lot of sweets. I just crave sugar. It's awful - sometimes...
  6. I checked my blood sugar this morning and it was 95.
  7. My husband is a type I juvenile diabetic, I'll use his test meter in the morning and see what I'm running and let you guys know. I should have thought of that anyway. I can be such a dough-head. Must be the gluten-induced fog. I never thought it could be the "grazing" I end up doing in the evening. A cookie here, a cracker there. I LOVE sweets - gluten...
  8. I am so thankful I live in Wisconsin! I can purchase New Grist at our local Fesitval Foods for a bargain at $6.79/6 pack!
  9. I will try that. I have been overweight my whole life so it wouldn't surprise me to have blood sugar problems and type II diabetes does run in the family. Thanks for your input.
  10. My sister-in-law makes her own wine and I'm wondering if "wine yeast" is okay. I tried to do a search but couldn't find anything.
  11. After I take a nice hot shower I feel a lot better. I have felt kind of strange (things seem surreal) since going on the diet, so maybe I'm just trying to blame everything on celiac. I have no idea what my body is going to do from one day to the next. One day I'm full of energy and the next I'm so pooped all I want to do is sleep. I hope this doesn't...
  12. I have been gluten free almost two months and have started waking up very cold and trembly/shaky. Could this be a detox type deal? I'm not dripping with sweat so I don't think it's night sweats. Anyone else experience anything similar? Thanks.

    ARCHIVED Mayo Clinic Celiac Center

I was diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic in March. Everyone there was so nice. I saw Dr. Roman Perri. I think he must be a resident or something. But he was very knowledgeable. I stayed at the Brentwood All Suites (it has changed names numerous times so I'm not totally sure of the name now) and they also have refrigerators and microwaves. I believe they...
  14. What I've found that is tasty is warm up the "bread" in the microwave for a few seconds, then drown it in pure maple syrup. It's about the only way I can eat the stuff. I've been using corn tortillas to make roll ups for lunch - I never was a sandwich eater, but I can't eat in the cafeteria at work anymore so what is a girl to do?
  15. Nessa, I was diagnosed a month ago and was sad and angry for quite a while. My husband said to me one day "you should thank God that they finally found out what's wrong with you". I told him I would thank Him as soon as I was done being ticked off. I am no longer ticked off. Once you get out there and see how much food is available things will seem...
