  1. You sound exactly like my husband! Mouth sores and life long tiredness. L-lysine 500mg, 1 tablet 1 to 3 times a day cured his canker sores. (my naturopath told me about this and it works great for him). The tiredness is definately a symptom of celiac and gluten intolerance. After pasta for lunch I would sleep in the afternoon. If someone hasn't...
  2. Thank you for the heads up on withdrawing from casein, I know I got sick from coming off gluten. Maybe a weekend will be best when my husband is home to help with the girls. Did you give up gluten first? How long before you felt better after going cf? Are you able to touch gluten or casein? How about eat things made in a facility that makes things with...
  3. I thought I read that soy is not good for you, it messes with your hormones and unless you are in menopause you should not eat it. I read in mothering magazine which I trust (Open Original Shared Link) In asia they do not eat soy like we do here (soy milk, fake soy meats, etc). They are pushing it hard in America to make money but it is the new human...
  4. Well I got my results: Antigliadin IgA: 68 (nl<10) Antitisuue Transglutaminase IgA: 35 (nl <10) Fecal fat score: 86 (nl <300) anti-casein IgA 29 (nl < 10) HLA-DQB1 molecular analysis, allele 1 0603 HLA-DQB1 molecular analysis, allele 2 0602 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 1,1 (subtype 6,6) The interpretation was that I am sensitive...
  5. Thank you all for the tips. I will check out this website, Gourmet and Bon Appetit sound good to me. I have the Gluten Free Gourmet cooks comfort foods, but I really prefer food that happens not to have gluten in it as opposed to food that is adjusted with gluten-free flours. They never taste the same to me. I have yet to find an edible bread. I've been...
  6. Thank you everyone for the ideas. That helps! There are a couple of cookbooks on the Living Without website. Wondering if anyone has checked those out? They look good too. Mia
  7. I'm having this problem too. It seems if I eat late at night that makes it worse, my gut is just digesting all night long and keeping me up or half awake all night. I have been taking a natural remedy called "Calms" by Hyland's. Its available at the natural food store and doesn't give me a hang over and I don't need it to fall asleep (no addiction) Mia
  8. Can anyone recommend some books to help me expand my limited gluten-free diet? I eat the same things for breakfast every day (eggs, bacon, yogurt, gluten-free cereal, tea) Lunch is usually potato with ham, broccoli, cheese, sour cream, or chili or left over dinner Dinner: meat and potatoes or rice and a frozen veggie. Snack: apples and peanut...
  9. A friend of mine is hypo thyroid but very very thin. I was wondering if it could be celiac (because now that I have finally found out what's wrong with me, I'm sure EVERYONE has it ) And if it were celiac, can you get off of thyroid meds if you go gluten free? Will your thyroid go back to normal? Thanks! Mia
  10. I bought it at a Ukrainian deli so it probably is imported from Germany, but it is probably also very old so I think I should throw it away anyway. But if hydrolyzed corn gluten is ok maybe I will get a new bottle at the deli because it tastes like soy sauce and I like the flavor. Are there gluten-free soy sauces available? I didn't see any at my health...
  11. Thank you guys. I am so thankful for this website. I never would have thought the toaster would be that big of a deal, but I must be in denial. When I look at the thing, it is covered in crumbs. And toasters are cheap anyway, why get sick over $15 for a new toaster. Mia
  12. Yesterday I had gluten-free bread toasted in a regular toaster for lunch. Then after dinner I had chocolate hagen daaz. Right after the ice cream my stomach had that diarrhea crampy feeling. and today I feel "hung over" . Which one is more likely to cause problems? Does chocolate have gluten in it? Could I just clean my toaster really well or do...
  13. Does anyone know if these ingredients are safe? I thought if they are it would be a good substitute for soy sauce since it tastes similar. Thanks! water hydrolyzed corn gluten soy protein salt artificial flavor
  14. Was it related to food or just something he grew out of? I am worried about putting some of those creams on her so young. I feel like her body is reacting to something and I just wish I could figure it out. Thanks for the posts! Mia
  15. My 4 year old daughter has been suffering from terrible rashes on the inside of her arms (inside of elbow), on inside wrists and back of knees. She is now complaining of stomach pain after eating inside her belly button. Is only the DH rash associated with Celiac or could this be too? I'm going crazy. It goes through phases of getting red and raised...
  16. You know, I didn't really know how much better I was until I tried bread again and got so sick and remembered, oh yeah, this is how horrible I felt all the time. I have adrenal fatigue on top of this. I guess your cortisol is supposed to be 13-25 in the morning and mine was 4! I think I need to heal my gut and then my adrenal glands can heal too. It...
  17. It seems like if I don't eat a lot of protein for breakfast I am behind the 8 ball the rest of the day. For breakfast I have: 2 eggs, 1 pc bacon, 1 bowl gluten-free cereal with whole milk, 1 pc fruit, 1 bowl yogurt and 1 cup tea with 2 tsp sugar. I am worried about how little variety I eat. Does anyone know of a good book on how to eat balaced healthy...
  18. I went gluten-free for 3 months, took a 3 week (worthless) gluten challenge that made me sooooo sick and now I am 2 weeks back into gluten-free. When I was gluten-free for the 3 months, towards the end of the 3 months my hypoglycemia started to get much better. After this 3 week gluten challenge I feel like I am back at ground zero! I am starving all...
  19. I think it will take time. I saw on another post that you can feel worse before better. One major thing I feel is like a dark cloud has been lifted off. I don't wake up with stomach pain every morning and major constipation anymore. I was so constipated I couldn't eat breakfast until I had metamucil and went to the bathroom first. I just have to be patient...
  20. You know I did have Chipotle the night before the "hang over" started and I was too shy to ask for new gloves. Maybe I will try not eating out for a month and then I can see more clearly what is a gluten reaction. Thank you Annette. I can see there will be a high learning curve for a while. Mia
  21. I have been off gluten now for a week since my 3 week gluten challenge. Yesterday and today I woke up with such stiff muscles and sore joints. I felt puffy, my sinus felt congested but I didn't have a runny nose. I almost felt like I had a 6 pack of beer last night. And soooo tired. Anyone have these symptoms after going off and how long did they last...
  22. Thank you for your replies. It helps to have some imput for such a costly venture. But I know if I don't do it now, 5 years from now I will wish I had. And my health is worth everything now! I'm sick of being sick! But I am very hopeful now that in several months I will be feeling better and in 6-12 I will hopefully be good as new. Mia
  23. I'm sorry if this posts twice, but I don't think it worked.
  24. Hello, I'm pretty new here. I had my blood test results about a week ago and of course they came back negative. I have been on a low gluten diet for about a year and no gluten from nov-jan. I ate gluten for 3 weeks prior to the test but now I see that was useless and only made me sick and is slowing my recovery. I have about 20 symptoms of celiac so I'm...
  25. I am very new here too. I have a lot of symptoms of celiac but my blood work came back negative but I was off gluten almost a year and then did a 3 week challange but it didn't help. I too was thinking of going to enterolab for some comfirmation, but it is my understanding that they won't be able to tell you if you are celiac, just if you are sensitive to...
