  1. My son and I both have celiac disease and high iron levels and have had liver problems. He has had his iron levels tested fairly frequently because he also has short-gut (more than 70% of small intestines removed, his ileocecal valve removed and part of his colon removed). I remember doing research on hemochromotosis several yrs ago, and was told that I don...
  2. I absolutely believe in prayers, and specific ones help. What is your friend's name and where does he live ? I would be glad to pray for answers and health for him. I know prayers made a tremendous difference for one of my boys that had very little hope for survival. Lorraine
  3. Yikes ! I had no idea gum bases could have gluten in it. My son has a gum ball machine (the heavy duty ones that you get at Sam's club that they put in grocery stores etc...) he would be devastated if I had to tell him the gumballs have gluten in them , that's what he wanted for his 7th birthday. I guess I will try and find the gumballs that are gluten...
  4. I make a lot of quiche because my kids and I love it. I use hash browns for the crust. I thaw frozen hash browns first, press them into the bottom of a pie pan, and use a paper towel to get any moisture out of them and press them tightly into the pan. I spray olive oil spray on them and bake for @ 15 min at 425 until they start to brown a little. Then I put...
  5. Galbladder disease is associated w/ celiac. I have had my galbladder out, and so has my son when he was almost 5 yrs old . I just found out yesterday that his latest MRCP (MRI of the biliary system) shows that he has another stone stuck in his common bile duct, even though he has already had his galbladder out, and needs another ERCP.
  6. I'm sorry to hear that your daughter has been so sick . Our whole family has been diagnosed w/ celiac disease or gluten intolerance. My son with other major medical problems was the first to be diagnosed. He had 70% of his small intestines, his ileocecal valve and part of his colon removed when he was an infant. He has had some major nutrition/absorption...
  7. oops ! Why did that show up 3 times ???
  8. Here's a link to some interesting articles on Medscape Open Original Shared Link Maybe some of the info will be helpful when needing to present info to your doctor, since they are much more receptive to articles published in medical journals.

  11. I have wondered about B12 shots also, especially for one of my boys. He had 70% + of his small intestines removed at 6 days old, including the part that absorbs B12. We were told from the very beginning that B12 shots would be a necessity for him, because of the short gut. He has been tested regularly for vitamin deficiencies and has not had problems that...
  12. Thomas Your lifestyle sounds intriguing to me. What will be bringing you to Colorado Springs ? I live in Boulder, you might like it here, it a fun place and lots of alternative organic, gluten free foods here too . There is a bakery in Colorado Springs called outside the breadbox, owned by the parents of a celiac patient. They also have casein free, gluten...
  13. I agree with the other posts. Why would you put him back on gluten to confirm what you already know ??? Especially going back to the same place that totally missed the diagnosis in the first place. The purpose of the biopsy is to see how much damage has been done to the upper GI tract (if any yet) to see how far things have progressed. There is not anything...
  14. I think your letter to your doctor is great ! It says everything he needs to know to come to the same conclusion that you have. I have seen several time on this board that some people are concerned about being 'officially diagnosed' in case of future hospitalizations. If you are not conscious or aware enough to talk, then you won't be given any foods right...

    ARCHIVED Genetics

My son was first to get celiac disease diagnosis I was diagnosed w/ celiac disease next My other son was diagnosed w/ gluten intolerance per blood tests my husband has been diagnosed with gluten intolerance a few days ago, but hasn't had a biopsy yet. my daughter is now going totally gluten free also because she has to have at least the genetic propensity...
  16. There are two restaurants that I know of that have gluten free menus PF Changs and Outback. Chick-fil-a was always a favorite for my kids and also has gluten free items on their menu. I was there the other day and asked for a grilled chicken breast with out the bun. I usually just say I am allergic to wheat, because most people understand that, and they just...
  17. I agree, with it not being possible to have a false negative test. Everything I have read says, it is not possible. A positive blood test may not mean you have damage to the villi (yet) but it does mean that you are reacting to gluten. It's ridiculous for a doctor to say that someone looks 'too healthy' to have a problem ! I would look on this site for a...
  18. My two sons and I have been gluten free (after diagnosis of celiac disease for one boy and I and gluten intolerance for my other son) for a while now and my husband just got diagnosed w/ celiac disease and so our daughter has to have it also. Anyone else have a family where both parents have been diagnosed and therefore all of your kids have it (celiac disease...
  19. www.outsidethebreadbox.com is a bakery in Colorado Sprongs, CO. They ship all over the US. They have all gluten free baked goods and a lot are are also casein free. I have ordered several things from them and they are good. I can understand the desire to avoid baking yourself (I have triplets and a very busy life, so baking is not something that is not...
  20. Hi I would definately recommend a much longer TOTAL elimination of gluten from your diet. It will NOT hurt you, it is actually a very healthy diet and may be very beneficial to you. Problems with dairy are often associated with gluten intolerance. Are you certain you actually had the flu ? Vomiting and diarrhea can easily happen if you are 'sort of' gluten...

    ARCHIVED Communion

Here's a link to some gluten free communion wafers. I have been thinking about this too. I haven't taken communion the wafers since going gluten free (with one exception) and have only taken the blood (in individual cups). I figured I would try it and see how I reacted (not good!!) A friend of ours prepares communion for our church and has a gluten intolerance...
  22. kyss I sent you a private message. Lorraine
  23. Sorry about all the stress you are dealing with , I know what it is it is like. I can very highly recommend Dr Stathos to you. His number is 303-869-2121, he is listed on this site (look on the home page for doctor finding info) as a peds GI dr recommended by those w/ celiac disease. I won't go into details here, but we have seen the you are seeing (because...
  24. Aldo I have wondered the same thing, many times when I have read postings here. My son, who was the first to be diagnosed in our family, had false negative blood tests (the older, less effective in diagnosing ones) and never had anything suggestive of celiac show up on quite a few biopsies, until his last one. He has short bowel syndrome (had 70% of his...
  25. kyss Who is your peds GI doctor ? Is it Dr Stathos ? You said you were in Colorado, and so are we. We know Dr Stathos VERY well, one of my boys has had most of his intestines removed, two have celiac disease and all three have reflux problems, so we see him a lot ! We think he is a great guy, my kids run up to hug him every time they see him Did you have...
