    ARCHIVED Fast Food

I have 7 yr old triplets (two of whom are gluten free) so I understand the implications and importance of gluten free fries Here's a link to the gluten free section on chick-fil-a's web site. I don't know if they have a dedicated fryer just for fries though ? My kids and I have not had any reaction to their fries though. Open Original Shared Link
  2. thanks for sharing that info, we are going to Portland in a few months, and will have to try it.

    ARCHIVED Outback

Corbintlq We live in Boulder, and went to the Outback in Louisville. I could have overlooked the gluten-free dessert, but I don't think so, because I was so excited about having it . I am getting hungry now, just typing this, I think we will have to go out to eat again soon, we are all getting really sick of our old standards here at my house.
  4. I would be interested Lorraine
  5. Why do you think you would need anything in writing if hospitalized ? My son has been in the ER several times, but not hospitalized again since his diagnosis. He has had 30 surgeries/proceedures and many hospital admissions in his 7-1/2 yrs. We have never had to have anything 'in writing' before. I agree that it is a good idea if unconscious to have a medic...
  6. I don't think you were saying that the stress and anxiety could be causing/exaserbating his "bathroom problems" , but it sounded that way in your post. All of us know how frustrating that is to hear , when you know that it is a reaction to gluten or another food that is causing the problem !!! Lorraine
  7. I have to disagree, slightly with another post about how best to deal with your doctor. I agree you need to have as much information as possible to bring to your doctor. Research and studies in medical journals are generally a MUCH more effective way to approach doctors. Where I disagree is in asking the doctor if they think a test for celiac disease is...
  8. What test did you have done ? Do you know what exactly the results were ? Can you get a copy of the tests ? Can you get a copy of your radiology reports and the the films themselves ? Did you have an ultrasound ? Did they say it looks like you have 'sludge' ? as opposed to a stone/stones ? Who was the doctor/radiologist that said you had a stone in your common...
  9. If you have a stone stuck in your common bile duct, you need to have it out !!!!!! SOON !!!!! My son had a huge stone stone stuck in his common bile duct and pancreatitis, when he was 4-3/4 yrs old. You are not too young !!!! The radiologist came in to check him out, when he was having an ultrasound, to find out why he was having severe episodes of pain...
  10. Yes celiac disease is a lifetime thing, and eating gluten free is the only way-FOR NOW- to prevent further damage. There are several groups of medical reasearchers working on treating celiac disease. They are working on several different areas. One of the GI drs doing research is from Oxford University and is a friend of a woman I know, who does medical research...
  11. I saw a huge improvement in my symptoms after a few weeks, even more improvement, once I eliminated ALL of the gluten in my diet (wasn't aware of some hidden sources for a few months). So it took @ 3 months to start feeling much better, and @ 6 months to feel dramatically better for me. Of my 'measurable' symptoms, my liver function tests are normal, but...

    ARCHIVED Outback

We ate at Outback last night and was honestly the most excited about the dessert , over anything else. They did not have any gluten-free desserts on the menu , they only had 3 to chooses from. The chicken (w/ gluten-free BBQ sauce) was good though. There must be different menus in different parts of the country ??? We live in Colorado. There is a really...
  13. Often times a celiac patient can not tolerate milk products, until a gluten free diet is started, and the damage to the intestines has healed. After that has happened then sometimes, maybe even often ? milk products can be tolerated. I'm glad to hear your son his having some more normal stools. We get quite excited about that kind of thing here too We...
  14. My symptoms were bloating diarrhea constipation extreme fatigue infertility (many years and 100s of thousands of dollars worth !) depression irritability liver damage (my GI dr who didn't even mention celiac though I should have a liver transplant) jaundice severe reflux weight GAIN lots of dental problems (because of enamel problems) feeling...
  15. Why are either of you doing biopsies with doctors who don't know what they are talking about ???? If you have a positive blood test, why are you even doing a biopsy ?? A biopsy does not need to be done, as far as I know, if you already have confirmation through a blood test. I personally would not trust a doctor who does not realize that 2 months gluten free...
  16. Both of my boys, who both have celiac disease are very different. They are two of my triplets, and although not identical look very similar, but are so different in every other way. One of them had 70% + of his small intestines removed and his ileocecal valve and part of his colon removed as a newborn. He had so many other reasons to be malabsorbing, and...
  17. I would find another GI doctor asap ! Where do you live ? Maybe someone here could suggest a good pediatic GI doctor. If you live in Colorado, I can highly recommend my kids' dr. He has office throughout Colorado and one in Wyoming and I think he travels to Nebraska occasionally too. One of my boys had many negative biopsies and even a false negative blood...
  18. Thanks for your response and the info on the book . I have been trying, without luck, to convince my mom (with many classic symptoms, and a family history of classic symptoms, not to mention a diagnosis for me and 2 of my kids ....) to get tested. She refuses and keeps saying "I have had allergy testing done and I am not allergic to wheat". It's very frustrating...
  19. I have been gluten free for @ 6 months now. I had my first mammogram recently and then an ultrasound because of a suspicious area. I am heaving a biopsy on Tues on my breast because of a probable complex cyst/ possible mass. I have heard that a gluten free diet helps stop cyst formation, that are very common, and nothing to worry about most of the time. Apparently...
  20. Thanks for your response, I have seen that link before. I wrote to one of the drs who wrote one of the articles, and he said my son was unique, so not too many out there like him I guess. Lorraine
  21. I have not heard of a gallbladder flush, until now. I had my gallbladder removed after my triplet pregnancy, and before I was diagnosed w/ celiac disease. "About the safety issue. Naturapaths Murray and Pizzorno (Encyc. of Nat. Med.) are quoted as saying that comsuming a lot of any oil will result in contraction of the gallbladder and will increase the...

    ARCHIVED Safe Restaurants

PF Changs has a gluten free menu, that you will need to ask for. I have asked, and so has a friend of mine, about a 'dedicated area' for gluten-free foods, and both restaurants (Flatirons and Park Meadows) said they did have that. I haven't ordered anything besides what is on the gluten-free menu, to be made gluten-free, but I think they are glad to do that...
  23. Anyone know of any studies that show that celiac patients have an increased risk of colon cancer ?? I have heard that there is an increased risk of small bowel cancer, but am also very interested in colon cancer risks. Both of my boys have celiac disease, and one of them also had 70 % of his small intestines removed after he had NEC (severe bowel infection...
  24. Thanks for your responses. I guess I will just have to be as passionate about learning everything I can about this, as I have been about my kids' other medical issues. I did know about meats and most of the sources of hidden gluten (I think) already, but hadn't thought about playdough. I always make my kids wash their hands after they create their masterpieces...
