ARCHIVED gluten-free And Ef Summer Camps
FreeTime posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have found several websites that offer gluten-free summer camps but only one that has an eggfree camp also. I have one child that is gluten-free and one that is EF. Are there any camps that you recommend? I would like them to be abl to go to a camp with other kids that have the same concerns. If not, they will go to church camp again which will allow them... -
ARCHIVED Eating Out
FreeTime replied to jmeds77's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has been gluten-free for 3 years and here are places that we eat and what they offer: Bob Evans - she is able to get grits, eggs, bacon, they subsitute the toast on the kids meal for banana or grits, grilled chicken tenders, salad (w/o dressing & croutons she doesn't like it anyways), turkey with veggies, hot fudge sundae. We bring bread... -
ARCHIVED Universal Studios Florida, Any gluten-free Food There?
FreeTime replied to abigail's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Does anyone have any experience with the counter service eateries? We are going for spring break and the list that guest services sent me showed nothing that my 8 year old will eat. They did tell me that I would be able to bring food in for her such as PBJ, chips, cookies. But I don't know that she can live on that for 5 days. -
ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free Cruise Experiences?
FreeTime replied to givenupgluten's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Disney Cruise is great for all kinds of families with and without young kids. The adult area is great we really enjoyed it. The adult area on Castaway Cay looks fantastic (we haven't been able to go because of having kids with us). My daughter was able to get anything she wanted to eat. She would have to order her food for the next day the night before... -
ARCHIVED Thumbs Up For Disney World!
FreeTime replied to pajamama2's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
The American fast food place at Epcot in World Showcase is great. It is in the American Adventure building, but I can't recall the name. They had hot dogs with buns and Pamelas cc cookies for dessert. The Electric Umbrella in Future World also has a menu. At any of the fast food places they have a special diet folder in each line behind the register.... -
ARCHIVED Royal Carribbean Is Great!
FreeTime replied to gaynonna's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Glad to hear this! We have only sailed on Disney before and they were awesome. But, I have a ressie for RCL for next March and have been concerned about what they will offer. How were the desserts? Do they have cakes and brownies? My daughter is 7 and looked forward to having desserts just like everyone else had on Disney. -
ARCHIVED So. Cal, Lake Tahoe/reno, Las Vegas
FreeTime posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We are visting Lake Tahoe (willing to drive to Carson City, Reno), San Diego, Las Vegas and Disneyland this summer. Any suggestions of places to eat? I am planning Hard Rock in San Diego and Lake Tahoe as we have eaten at this chain before and they are always great (the Las Vegas one is not owned by the chain, so I am not so sure). I think we will be fine... -
Does anyone know of any pizza places in South Lake Tahoe, Reno, or Carson City that offer gluten free crusts? Thanks

I had seen several posts about Reb Robin on this board so we took our daughter last night. They wer terrible! They manager said that he was not familiar with what they had to offer that was gluten free and that he had heard they were getting a menu in the future but did know what would be on it. They would not bake the fies like most other rests. when the...

ARCHIVED Should I Have An Endoscopy? (long)
FreeTime replied to FreeTime's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the comment. I have not gone gluten free in anticipation of possibly needing the test. However, the Dr. asked me, have you gone gluten free to see if that helps your IBS? I said no that I didn't want to have a false celiac test. He said, "oh." -
ARCHIVED Should I Have An Endoscopy? (long)
FreeTime posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagonsed with IBS 2 years ago. No matter what I eat, I still get sick. However, one item that I have not cut out and have with every meal is gluten. My daughter was diagonsed with celiac disease in December. Today I saw my gastrologist again and explain that my child has been diagnosed and I researched the disease and learned that those with IBS are... -
My local Panera manager says that she believes gluten free bread is on the horizon! I certainly hope that this is not a rumor. Let me know if anyone that has a Panera in the area starts seeing gluten-free bread please. I would appreciate it.

ARCHIVED Wdw & Universal gluten-free Trip Report
FreeTime replied to FreeTime's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We stayed 1 night at Coronado Springs and 5 nights at OKW (they have kitchens, so we could cook if necessary). We have stayed at the All Star Movies before, which is similiar to Pop Century. I think that you will enjoy it. Have a great time! I also forgot to mention the Boardwalk Bakery. They are located at The Boardwalk. They said that they can make... -
ARCHIVED Wdw & Universal gluten-free Trip Report
FreeTime posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We just returned from our first vacation since our daughter has had to start eating gluten free. We visited Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World. I had contacted both resorts in advance and Universal did nothing to help us! Disney was fabulous! Below is a list of where we ate and what they had. Universal Themepark-I asked if they had gluten free pizza... -
ARCHIVED Mom Of Celiac
FreeTime replied to genicol's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our Dr is Dr Delorenzo. We did see the nutritionist at Children's. Just make sure before you go that they know why you are going. We went for our appointment and they said they have one gluten free specialist and that she was off that day. When we went back she gave us books, food, brochures, and said that we can e-mail/call anytime for free advice. Rasin... -
ARCHIVED Vanilla. Did I Make A Mistake?
FreeTime posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had been using pure vanilla extract to bake cookies and muffins. It occured to me today that it has alcohol in it! I have all of these baked goods made, eeekkkk! So dumb question, is the alcohol in vanilla okay? I will call the manufacturer tomorrow, but would like to know sooner as I need a back up plan. The baked goods are for an out of town trip so I... -
ARCHIVED Mom Of Celiac
FreeTime replied to genicol's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
genicol-I saw you mentioned Rasin Rack so I am assuming that you are near Akron or Columbus. RR is right next to where I work and I get all of our gluten-free food there. It is much cheaper than Whole Foods and they have things that my 6 year old loves. Even donuts!! The individual pizza crust is great. Also try the "light" Energx bread. It is not heavy and... -
ARCHIVED Amazing Walt Disney World Dining Experiences!
FreeTime replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Does anyone know if Tony's in the MK is the only place that you can get gluten-free pasta? Where can we get mac & cheese? Thanks -
Thanks for the comments. I am concerned that we are not being careful enough with her diet. For example, we eat out frequently and now I am seeing on these boards that some people never eat out. I always ask to have a manager help us, ensure that the gloves are changed, make sure the fryers are dedicated, etc. I check the ingredients and call the manufactures...

I recently ate at our local Friday's with my 6 yo who is on a gluten free diet. They baked her fries since they do not have dedicated fryers and ensured us that the BBQ suace on her ribs was gluten free. She did not have a breakout afterward (DH). We definately will be going back.

Mu daughter has DH but had no symptoms of celiac. She had an endoscopy and I am a little confused by the results. Actually, I couldn't understand them as the Doc didn't speak very good English. He just said no moe gluten. So, if the rash is the only symptom, if she eats gluten is she still damaging herself internally? Can someone please tell me what the longterm...

We will be going on our 1st vacation since my daughter has become gluten free. We are travelling to Universal and then Walt Disney World. WDW has been a huge help with guidance on what she can eat. Universal has not. Does anyone know of places to eat in the parks at Universal or close by? Also, does anyone in the Lake Buena Vista area make gluten free pizza...
