  1. I take two 400Mg caplets from Now (cheapy brand, I know). Also take 500Mg as a component of a large multi mineral called Max-A-Min, which I got from the now-defunct Wild Oats stores. It doesn't go bad, but when I'm done with it I'll need to find a new source.
  2. Hi, I've struggled with depression since at least middle school, about age 12. Sometimes it was better, sometimes worse. I always wondered what was wrong, why I couldn't think well of myself, always thought I was less than everyone else. I was bright and got good grades, but couldn't track things well. I was always the odd one out. Fast forward to about...
  3. On thinking more about this, I realized that I've been off magnesium supplements for about 2 months. During that time I've begun to have problems with hyperacusis, tinnitus, etc. In blood tests, I've had low readings in D3 and other vitamins, but don't think I've been tested for magnesium. Magnesium is part of a three-vitamin cocktail that researchers...
  4. This is a fascinating thread. I was born with about 50% hearing loss and I wear a hearing aid. I've since had problems with tinnitus as well as hyperacusis (sensitivity to noise which gets worse with exposure to more loud noise). I'm sometimes tempted to attribute every physical ailment I have to my celiac disease, but I don't want to get paranoid ...
  5. Hi givenupgluten, Many of your anxieties remind me of my own. When I'm glutened, I experience severe anxiety about 48 hours later. It lasts for about 24 hours, and during that time it is almost impossible for me to think well of myself. (My thinking goes, "Must think positive... everything's crap... must think positive... everything's..." all day long...
  6. We just tried Trader Joe's (new?) waffle mix this weekend. I'd never seen it in the store before. We usually use Cravings Place, which is delicious, if a bit heavy. Well, TJ's new mix was half the price and WAY lighter. And it's a big bag... Great stuff. I recommend it highly.
  7. I always get so uncomfortable when people go out of their way to accomodate me, but it sure feels good, doesn't it?!
  8. Sounds like you have a very supportive family. Congratulations, Jenny!
  9. Hi dogle, I suffered from the psychological effects of celiac disease, and some of the things you say sound very familiar to me. I can still get depressed if I happen to be glutened (I usually feel it around 36-48 hours after being glutened, and it lasts about 24 hours). When I'm in the middle of it, there's little I can do to feel better. But if you can...
  10. Hi Trev, Welcome, welcome! If I have a problem with my condition, I'll often come here before I go to my Dr. (I know, it's not what the AMA would advise!) but I've learned much of what I needed to know by hearing other people's stories here. Lots of great support! See you around the board! Josh.
  11. Hi, I think there have been some very negative things said about doctors, and I can't agree with painting them all with the same brush. Brian, your doctor seems to have some personal frustrations that are emerging in his practice, and they may be getting in the way of doing good medicine. My GP is kind of clueless about celiac, but he listens and...
  12. I agree. I think that modeling good behavior is the only way to teach. If I take care of myself, people in my family are more likely to, as well. I've found that's been true for several people I'm close to. I don't like to "educate" people unless they ask me. Sometimes I feel compelled to say something, like to my parents about my mom's persistent...

    ARCHIVED Overeating

Hm, well, I have a tendency to overeat emotionally, too. In fact, I don't know if it's just OCD in general, or if it's related to never getting enough from the food I ate when I was young, but I'm capable of overeating anything. Mostly, though it's sugary stuff that is gluten-free. (sidenote: I just learned M&M's are gluten-free! Why on earth would...
  14. Hi, Has someone out there has had experience with a celiac specialist in Portland? I think there must be someone good up at OHSU, but given some of my previous experiences, I would like to get a referral before I plunk down my (all my?) money. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much! Josh.
