Grandma Got Run Over By The...

Fun Grandma story----my grandma LOVES garage sales and when she moved to a new town she discovered a resale shop type of place called DIG and SAVE which is her new hobby. You dig in 3 foot tall bins full of USED clothes and pay for them by the POUND.So grandma loves to shop for ALL of us there and always has a pile of stuff for me when I visit. I usually make my mother give it away to Goodwill immediately (I grew up shopping at Goodwill by necessity and am delighted to be able to wear unused clothes as an adult- college pays!). BEST item as of yet::::The SILVER LAMEE DICKEY!!!!!!! (The fake turtleneck).(Don't know how to spell la-may.)

Good ol' Grandma. I was REALLY surprised a couple weeks ago when she told me she planned on making something gluten-free for me for the holiday meal when I'm in town. However she emailed me (she just learned email, so cute) asking if I could have rice krispies cereal. I said no. Then she asked for guidelines. I sent a few paragraphs worth of Yes and No foods and offered to send gluten-free recipes. She emailed back that it's just too hard, forget it.

Well, if it's too hard for my grandma to make ONE gluten free dessert for her only Granddaughter who spends hundreds of dollars and braves FREEZING temperatures to visit her every year, then I guess that affirms how hard the gluten-free diet is and what a GREAT attitude I have about trying new recipes and foods. OH, and why I laugh every time she expresses her disbelief about why I choose to live thousands of miles away from her.
