Ice breakers -Share your most awkward gluten-free moment!
Certainly! Here’s my gluten-free blooper reel:
Title: “The Great Bagel Incident”
Picture this: A cozy Sunday morning. The sun peeking through the curtains, birds harmonizing outside. I’m at a quaint café, sipping my herbal tea (because chamomile is my spirit herb). The menu beckons, and there it is—the holy grail of gluten-free dreams: a bagel.
Scene 1: The Order
Me: “I’ll have the gluten-free bagel with avocado, please.” Waiter: “Sure thing! One gluten-free bagel coming up.”
Scene 2: The Arrival
The plate arrives. Behold! A bagel—golden, toasted, and… suspiciously fluffy. My gluten radar pings. But hey, maybe it’s a miracle bagel, right? I take a cautious bite.
Scene 3: The Revelation
My taste buds scream, “Gluten alert!” It’s like biting into a cloud made of wheat. Panic sets in. I glance at the waiter, who’s busy juggling coffee cups. Do I interrupt his coffee ballet to announce my bagel betrayal?
Scene 4: The Internal Monologue
“Celia,” I tell myself, “you’ve got this. Be assertive. Channel your inner gluten warrior.”
Scene 5: The Bold Move
I clear my throat. “Excuse me, sir. This bagel… it’s not gluten-free.” Waiter (still mid-coffee-juggle): “Oh, really? Are you sure?” Me (fighting gluten-induced brain fog): “Positive. My intestines just did a somersault.”
Scene 6: The Waiter’s Confusion
He squints at the bagel. “But it’s labeled ‘gluten-free’ on the menu.” Me (internally screaming): “gluten-free stands for ‘Gluten Fiasco,’ apparently.”
Scene 7: The Apology Tango
Waiter: “I apologize. Let me get you a proper gluten-free bagel.” Me: “Thank you. And maybe a side of detective skills?”
Scene 8: The Moral of the Story
Always trust your gluten instincts. If a bagel looks too good to be true, it probably is. And remember, fellow celiacs, we’re the Sherlock Holmes of food labels.
Fade out. Cue gluten-free applause. 🎬🥯
Feel free to share your own gluten-free tales—I’m all ears (and taste buds)! 😄🌾

Celiac and allergic to common subs and adds in prepared foods
Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats. -

Disregarded
I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have... -

Paying for my own Celiac screening at WalkInLab so a positive result doesn’t become part of my medical history
It is just so sad that health care in the United States has come to this. Health insurance should be available to everyone, not just the healthy or the rich. My heart goes out to you. I would not hesitate to have the test and pay for it myself. My big concern would be how you could keep the results truly private. I am sure that ultimately, you could... -

While interesting, this article was useless to me. Name names! I have been eating the Walmart brand of gluten free oatmeal. Is this safer than Quaker gluten free oatmeal? How about King Arthur gluten free oatmeal?- celiac disease
