I Am So Bummed!

Totally Low-Carb a health food store in Dallas just shut down last week. I went today to get some gluten-free items and check on some Kinnikinnick donuts and they were closed. I met the owner today and she was busy selling all the shelving, equipment and lighting fixtures to anyone that would take them.

She also mentioned the other health food store, Delicious-n-Fit up in Plano is struggling. That the only thing keeping it afloat was the gluten-free bakery.

I am so bummed. I was just thinking how fun it might be to own a gluten-free store/bakery/cafe. This makes me think twice for sure!

Yeah, it's a tough niche to stay afloat in. I'm sorry they closed, that really sucks. :-(

The same thing happened to a store near-by too!! I was really disappointed :( . It just opened a couple months ago and it had a really good gluten-free section.

Lately, that has been what I want to do when I get older. Open a gluten-free resaurant or store. I know that business is hard, but it would definately be worth it :D .

Oh no! I haven't shopped at that store, but I have bought the gluten free sugar cookies at Delicious N Fit. I didn't know she was struggling too! This can't be, I had planned on ordering a gluten-free birthday cake for my kids, and getting more of her awesome cookies.

There's also Family Health Market in Frisco, off Preston Rd. Every time I go in there, they have more brands to choose from. There is a girl who works there who has celiac, and does the gluten-free ordering I believe. It may be a bit of a drive for you, but it's a great store. They have Kinni, Tinkyada, and almost all the other brands that are raved about. It's a gluten-free shoppers heaven, and I tell them that every time I go in! It was the first store that made shopping easy (food is clearly marked gluten free with stickers).

Hope you find a new place to shop! Whole Foods is great, but it takes me forever to find what I need.

Tamara,

Delicious-n-Fit's cookies are Awesome! Had the chocolate creme and it was fabulous - years since I've had one like that - YUM! And thanks for the tip on the store in Frisco. It would be a bit of a drive for me, but it's got to be better than the shipping costs from Kinnikinnick. Yikes! I plan on going to visit soon. WF is good, but different WF have different gluten-free items. I live in Richardson and the one here doesn't have Tinky - I have to go to Plano for that anyways...might as well hit your store in Frisco.

Maybe we'll meet someday at a Dallas silly-yak event. :P

Don't believe everything you hear. Delicious-N-Fit is new, only 1 year in gluten free, and got it's tail kicked by low carb for the 1st year. However, it is not ready to close up.

Look for an ad in Living Without this November for Laura Girl's Cookies. That is the brand name for 5 flavors of cookies that Delicious-N-Fit will be marketing and shipping out to other stores. Roy's Natural Market in Dallas carries Fruit Dansh that are Gluten Free and Dairy Free, they also have 4 flavors of cookies all under the name of Mrs. Strain's Bakery. That is a line from Delcious-N-Fit.

Unlike the low carb stores that have closed up in the last year Delicious-N-Fit is working on creating a market outside of the store and looking to expand it product offerings all geared towards the gluten free market and comfort foods.

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?

Yes Bobs redmill cgf oatmeal I started when I became gluten-free. So taking all 3 with breakfast should work? Will I notice any reactions getting used to these or should I be fine. Thanks

Hello, @pilber309, welcome to the forum! Are you currently consuming dairy?   You mentioned something about lots of yogurt and cheese, but did you cut it out or are you eating lots of it?   Could you clarify please? Some people with Celiac react to casein, the protein in dairy the same as to gluten with antibodies and villi damage.
    • knitty kitty
You may want to skip the oatmeal.  I believe you're trialing a gluten free diet while waiting for an appointment with your doctor in the new year and doing a gluten challenge then.  Some people with Celiac disease react to the protein in oats called avenin the same as to gluten.  Cross contamination between oats and gluten containing grains is possible.  Are you consuming certified gluten free oats?   I would hate for you to have a reaction to the oats and blame it on the vitamins. Yes, it will be fine to take them all together.  I take mine all together, B Complex, Benfotiamine and TTFD Thiamine with breakfast. If you're really anxious about it, just take the B Complex and Benfotiamine at breakfast and the Thiamax at lunch.  You won't have to take a second B Complex with the Thiamax.

So I purchased the Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine along with the Thiamax. I will take along with my Super B Complexes. I stopped taking the multi vitamins. Should I take all 3 vitamins/supplements together with my morning oatmeal breakfast? Do you think I will experience any bad symptoms when taking them.
