Otc Temporary Digestive Aids For Celiacs

Anyone tried any of the OTC aids for temporary relief when you just have to have a non-celiac safe food?  We follow a strict celiac safe diet but occasionally my spouse wants the "real thing".

I was just at the International Celiac Disease Symposium and can tell you that they would answer this question "NO!"  The doctors that are working on  a pill that can break down gluten very quickly, before it leaves the stomach, tested the OTC and mail order products and found that they do not work at all or only work a very slight bit.  They also say that their pill is not meant for cheating.  It is meant for when you must eat away from home during travel, order gluten free, but it isn't as gluten-free as you thought.

 

These doctors and some of the other presenters were firm that a Celiac should not cheat on their diet.

      Thoughts? Non-endoscopic Celiac diagnosis in two year old

      Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong. yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

      @GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.

In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
