Enterolab Test Positive,

Tia099

Recommended Posts

Tia099 Newbie

I have just a general question about Enterolab testing results as follows:

Fecal antigliadin 102 units (normal <10 units).

I'm wondering how severe of a reaction I may be having? I have lupus, Sjordens, and Raynauds syndromes as well as Hashimotos thyroiditis. Lots of autoimmune problems, I'm learning that Celiac is also an autoimmune disease as well.

My family history is complicated by two sisters with MS, my mother has Vitiligo (skin autoimmune problem) and Hashimotos.

My question is how severe is a result of 102 units from Enterolab? Is this an indicator of end stage celiac disease? Hope my question doesn't sound to silly, I really am just concerned. I'm sure if it's positive then gluten free diet is the only remedy. I realise even with low positive results an intolerance is still an intolerance.

Yours truly!

Tia

I'm sure my question regarding test results would probably be better to instead email Dr. Fine at Enerolab. I'll do that and maybe post if there's informative news about levels that are high.

Thanks,

End stage of celiac? Hmm. If normal is less than 10, and your reading is 102, then I think you need to be gluten free.

My choice of wording with "end stage" celiac wasn't quite what I meant. Progressive celiac disease is probably a better choice of wording, meaning lots of problems stemming from eating gluten. I have been gluten free since I recieved results from enterolab.

I just never thought of it as end stage. I do suppose that it is, when you reach the constant diarhea and weight los and malabsorbtion, since the damage is severe!

I had a 104 and no damage/symptoms or other illnesses so unfortunately not everybody falls into the classic form. I think you are best in emailing Dr. Fine for clarification.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.

It's not uncommon to experience some bleeding with hemorrhoids but I doubt enough to materially effect your iron levels. About your constipation. Are you getting enough fiber in your diet? 25-30 grams per day is the adult recommendation. Eggs and chicken have zero fiber. One medium apple or one average banana will have about 3 g. of fiber. A serving of oatmeal will have 3-4 g. Just to give you an idea. It's harder than you think to get 25-30 g of fiber. You have to plan for it and work at it. Getting plenty of hydration is important as well.

Someone said this could be due to my hemorrhoids. On March 17, 2024 my ferritin level was 23.
