How is it possible that after 2 years of being gluten-free and dairy free that my lipid panel (cholesterol, tryglycerides etc) are soooo elevated that in 3 mo. time if there is no change i need to go on statins....I'm a 49 year old female, exercise, weight normal...are genetics dooming me! Anyone else as frustrated???

Unfortunately, there isn't any one thing that causes or prevents anything - all the different systems in the body are connected, and many different factors can influence your lipid levels. Your genetic makeup - some people just naturally have higher lipid levels than others; your diet - the amount of red meat, fish, types and kinds of oils, etc. can all influence your lipid levels. And everyone is not the same. For instance, the amount of cholesterol I need to eat as part of my diet may be very different from the amount you need. Take just one factor, like red meat. Some people cut down on meat to lower their cholesterol, and find that without an intake of meat, their bodies go into overdrive to produce cholesterol and their numbers actually rise. Other people HAVE to lower the amount of meat in order to lower their numbers. And that's just one factor.

You might take a look at your overall diet, and see if there is either an absence or abundance of one type of food. If so, tweaking that might help. And look at your Omega 3 and 6 oils, especially the ratio between them.

Sorrynot to be more help, but there are so many different things that can affect your numbers, there is no one easy answer.

Debbie

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
