Detour Energy Bars

Anybody eating the Caramel Peanut Detour Energy Bar? I saw that Trader Joe's lists them under their gluten-free Bars section online but, was wondering if anyone had anything to say about them....either good or bad (Reactions, etc.)

The ingredients seem okay but, I would like to double check before I risk a weeks worth of feeling lousy.

Thanks,

Sorry, didn't see the original post. I contacted Detour a couple months ago and they said NONE of their protein bars are gluten-free. I've had a problem with TJ's list in the past - they had some protein bars listed as gluten-free that blatantly listed "barley malt" in the ingredients!

If you need any other protein bar recommendations let me know. I think I've tried every gluten-free one available

Hi Lauren,

It will be great if you could post some gluten free energy bar names that we can get in regular stores. I found out 3 weeks back that I have to go on gluten free diet and I am still learning. :)

Thanks

Yeah, I saw that on TJ's gluten-free list too. I use to eat them all of the time before I knew about celiac. I think of all protein bars (not the candy bars they like to call protein bars) this one is one of the best. Most "real" protein bars taste like crap but this one is good. I guess that doesn't do much good since we can't eat them (well, actually I am not sure if we can or not). I have avoided them b/c I wasn't sure. Sorry, I know that doesn'y help much.

I really like the Genisoy chocolate peanut butter protein bars. Also - several of the Zone protein bars are gluten-free - the chocolate raspberry one is yummy! And they can be found pretty much anywhere. The Think Thin bars (labeled gluten-free right on the wrapper) aren't very tasty - but I'll still eat them if I know I need to get some protein in me! Other snack bars that are good, but don't have much protein include Larabars and Clif nectar bars.

I called next protein- the manufacturer of detour/ oneway/joyride/ and uturn bars- and the woman told me they were gluten-free. (but they are made on production lines that contain gluten.)

I really hope this is true, because I eat them almost every day. I havent had a reaction, and I am pretty sensitive.

What ingredient is suspicious? or is it the Contamination issue?

thanks a lot

Maggie

Maybe things have changed? I saved the e-mail that I got from them a few months ago:

Dear Lauren,

Thank you for contacting us regarding our Designer Whey products.

Unfortunately, none of the bars are gluten free. However, all seven

award winning flavors of our Designer Whey protein are gluten free.

Good luck with all of your health and fitness goals!

Sincerely,

Next Proteins

Customer Service

The gluten-free stuff they were referring to was a protein powder.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
