SIBO test

Hi,

Haven’t posted for a while. I feel a little bit better after my strict diet. Not sure if my iron went up though and not sure how long does it take for ferritin levels to go back to normal. Had SIBO test last week and results are negative for SIBO hydrogen but elevated methane level. Does anyone have the same thing?

SIBO is a common issue, and in your case could definitely be related to your recent celiac disease diagnosis. Hopefully your strict gluten-free diet will help with both your ferritin and SIBO issues, but this can take time. The average time to recover after a CD diagnosis is around two years. It is possible that your SIBO issue may need to be treated with antibiotics, which would likely speed up this process, and hopefully you can discuss this with your doctor.

Thank you:).

I was told that my SIBO is negative but methane level was elevated. My doctor said it might be related to bloating and gas. Anyways after coming back to LA I will discuss it with my doctor. I asked him if I need antibiotic treatments for methane but he hasn’t responded yet. I was also told that my celiac is mild but it’s Marsh 3A I don’t think it should be considered mild, I’m not doctor but I think stage 3 is actual damage. Can I ask what was your Marsh score and how long did it take for you to heal ?

thank you so much

I don't think that is mild either, and it can take a year or more on a 100% gluten-free diet to fully heal. I don't think the Marsh scale was in use when I was diagnosed, but I do know that my gastro said that the damage was visible to the naked eye. I believe it took me closer to 2 years to feel like I had recovered, but I know that I had issues avoiding contamination, especially because I did eat out regularly.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
