I am having a tserrible time finding something for Constipation . You name it i HAVE TRIED it . and its so hard to find a product that says gluten free..

You can search in Amazon specifically for gluten free supplements. Magnesium comes in different formulations. You want to get a form that is well-assimilated. Two good options are magnesium citrate and magnesium glycinate.

yes know what mag citrate is  but i wll check on the other thanks

I know your main issue is constipation but be aware that magnesium supplements can have a laxative effect (think, "milk of magnesia"). The choice of a well-assimilated magnesium form can help prevent that but just be careful to find the dosage that helps your issue but doesn't create the opposite problem. You may have to titrate up from an initial partial dose until you find that point.

Try a daily dose of chia seeds hydrated with water (or hydrated with dairy-free milk, juice or blended into a smoothie) - "chia pudding" . Start with 1 teaspoon a day, increasing to 2 teaspoons/day.

Acacia fiber also works very well.

My GI recommended Citrucel caplets (specifically the caplets, not the powder) after my Celiac Diagnosis, to help mitigate the IBS-presenting issues I was having at the time. They've done wonders for my digestive health in the 18 months since (though we'll see how they pair with the new Iron supplement my doctor just put me on). If you haven't tried them yet, perhaps give that a go?

I use RenewLife's Fibresmart, specifically the powder (the capsules don't work as well for me for some reason) and then I make sure to drink a TON of water throughout the day. This was recommended by my dietician.

Make sure the chia seeds are gluten free. There can be significant cross contamination in products like this and much of it comes from countries where it may be difficult to confirm whether or not they are gluten free. But they are an excellent source of fiber and are very filling. They are a favorite with those on ketogenic diets.

I take Country Life Chelated Magnesium everyday, that's gluten free and safe. I also stopped eating processed foods with gluten free labels on it unless I was 100% positive the facility didn't process any gluten. So many products have gluten free labels but less than 20ppm of gluten which STILL get people sick who have celiac especially if you have a highly sensitive gut. I had really really bad constipation problems and I found that once I eliminated processed box products as much as I could and juiced 8-16oz of celery juice every morning (first thing I drank on an empty stomach) plus taking magnesium every day HELPED IMMENSELY. If you incorporate quinoa in your diet someway everyday, it also helps sooooo much. It is high in fiber. You must increase your fiber intake.

Razzle et Al,

I don't know if you have got your answer yet or not.....but it depends on whether you are treating critical or chronic constipation.

If is critical (currently constipated) taking some Senna or supper slimming tea (which is Senna based)....it will get you moving within 6 to 12 hours normally...

Taking a Stool Softener will keep you moving on a normal basis.....I used to take them myself.

Longer term.....taken Mangesium Citrate regularly will also help.....which I find is a better long term solution.

You might also take some Benfotiamine......and a B-Complex if you don't already.....they can be helpful longer term.

I also suffer from chronic constipation and have since I was a child. I'm now 71. My poor rectum doesn't want to work anymore. Magnesium is essential for me nightly. All bottles recommend 1 per night but I have to take 2 and occasionally have to take 3 when I get backed up. It's such a pain, literally.

Supplementing with Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine proven to help heal the digestive tract, helps with constipation.

Nature made sells mag citrate in capsule form. I've been taking it for years that way.

      I hope you all had a nice weekend. Cloudy here in Hampshire. Just a little update that might help someone else one day. Over the weekend, I realised that the brand of almond milk I had been buying contains added iodine. So, I visited the supermarket and chose a different brand (Plenish) that does not contain added iodine and have been drinking that since Saturday. No itching at all yesterday! Another breakthrough (thank you @knitty kitty). I think the added iodine milk may have been what was causing that last 10% itch.  I also met a friend for coffee in town yesterday. The cafe only had soya milk (which I have not been sure I am OK with) but I had 2 delicious latte's made with soya milk. I also had a gluten-free millionaire's shortbread. I am beginning to enjoy the taste of almond and soya milk a lot more than cows milk now.  I seem to be fine with a little sprinkle of cheddar cheese on my jacket potato. I bake them in my air fryer and have them with a big mixed salad and baked beans. I also made a gluten-free tuna pasta bake on Saturday; it's my son's favourite dish. I was  fine with that, too but have noticed that a whole can of tuna sets me off itching.  It is a learning curve. My dermatology appointment is tomorow and I will come back to update. Have a good week everyone.

      Psyllium can't sit for more than a minute in the water or it is like drinking sludge. Swallowed fairly soon means it's more like an flavorless undermixed protein smoothie. Chlorophyll ( or two tbsp) really helps the taste, makes it minty. Taking Psyllium and Chlorophyll separately rather than together at first helps determine if there's intolerance to either. Also starting the Psyllium in small doses, starting with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon to tolerate the fiber change.

      BuddhaBar, I came across this thread while searching online for celiac insomnia (having also scared myself stupid by finding out about fatal insomnia) and it did bring me some piece of mind as it so closely matches my own experience. I know this thread is old now, I hope you're doing well, and thanks for posting your experience.

      That's great news, @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour.  And you might find that if you do have asthma, keeping your reflux under control may help, if my experience is anything to go by.
