A WORD FROM VERY WELL HEALTH: “Many people with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity also suffer from neurological symptoms, which often include peripheral neuropathy and migraine. Some also complain of balance problems that do seem to resolve once they go gluten-free.”  I AM GLUTEN FREE!  Everyone, including you, and I, can get a very occasional accidental ingestion. In other words, ‘NOT  REALLY YOUR FAULT’, often a not listed gluten, such as candies coated with flour to prevent them sticking together on conveyor belts. We In Canada are not as fortunate as the U.S.A. with regards to “Gluten Free” labeling laws, but the person traveling on holidays to Mexico or other South American Countries that have no listings given at all with regards to what the food source contains.

“It is possible that, as more studies are conducted on gluten ataxia, researchers will find even stronger links between that condition, celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. In the meantime, if you have symptoms and gluten ataxia, talk to your healthcare provider. You may require testing to determine if you have another medical condition that can cause similar symptoms”.

“Can airborne flour make you sick if you are a celiac?” : Inhaled wheat flour can make you very ill because it first goes not only into your esophagus and nose but also passed through your gastro intestinal tract, so baking for the family, even with wearing a mask is “iffy” as I found out to my detriment.  Better to at least try to start with sourdough bread first and see how it affects you. Yeast, as you know, is not truly a friend of the celiac person

If you like this article, and want to know more about gluten ataxia, what can occur with fructose malabsorption, how some celiac people are affected by the Cassein in cow’s milk, and research being done on 1,000 year old grains, please comment on this article and my outcome.

Respectfully submitted,

Yvonne (Vonnie) Mostat, R.N.

Thanks @Beverage for checking in!  I haven't changed the dogs' food yet.  I'm still working through some of the other issues that I need to remedy (transitioning to an anti-inflammatory diet, being sure to get only gluten-free certified items, and buying some new cookware for my kitchen).  Somewhere after that, I have on my list to try out the dogs on a new dog food, but I haven't gotten there yet.  In the meantime, though, I can definitely see that some of my worst days seem to follow when there's a possibility of gluten cross-contamination (I'm still working to cut waaay down on these instances) OR when I eat anything with dairy/ milk protein in it.  So I think I need to really get a better handle on my day-to-day eating habits to reduce all gluten cross-contamination into my food and also any dairy intake, and then at that point, I think I'll start moving over to the dog food thing.

Sounds like fun, and I was in Germany a few years ago so you might find these articles helpful:

I don't think you have the URL/site address correct, as there is nothing at that site.

Hello All I am traveling to Germany in October and will be in Berlin, Rothenburg ODT , Salzburg, Fussen and Munich.  I am also driving the northern part of the romantic road with stops in some of the smaller towns along the way.  I would really appreciate any recommendations for gluten-free friendly places, restaurants and any gluten-free beer gardens.  Thanks in advance, Laura
