Er Last Night

So last night I ended up in the ER..definately not how I was hoping to spend the night. I've been having stomach problems for many years, and the current bout of stomach pains has lasted a month or so. I've realized recently that I can eat wheat or soy, so im trying a gluten free/soy free. However, last saturday I went to my moms house we bought a rotersie chicken from sam's club and then i had some kroger rice cakes. afterwards i saw the chicken had wheat as a seasoning, and the rice cakes had soy- yikes! Needless to say i did not feel good. I had to make (gluten) cookies for a party the next day..and since i figured i was already sick i mine as well enjoy a cookie..BAD MISTAKE! i got so nauseous that night and increibly bloated (i dont tend to get D- i get constipated instead) so the whole week i felt pretty crappy, and my stomach was scarely bloated out. on thursday i went to red lobster because my grandpa just got back from a winter in florida and wanted to go out. i thought i did good (grilled salmon, plain potato, plain veggies, salad no croutons) but by the time i finished i felt so sick- i could barely walk outta the restaurant! By saturday night, my stomach hurt so bad i couldnt walk upright and it was so bloated it hurt to have clothes on. i went home (i live on campus) and my mom was worried my appendix was bursting, i was in that much pain and it was mostly on my right side (tho it was allover, i just got shooting pain on my right side). when i went to the er they had to give me a few doses of morphine and naseua medicine. they had me drink some form of liquid (that was NASTY!) and did a cat scan. they said all it showed was a lot of stools, and gave me some medicine and sent me home. They told me to drink a lot of water (i already drink at least 64 oz a day) and a lot of fruits and vegetables (right now my diet is mainly lean protein, fruits, and vegetables as it is) Has this happened to anyone else? How long can gluten reactions last for? What helps for major bloating?

Lisa, I'm sorry you are feeling badly, but now you really really "know" that gluten does you in! Sorry. I've found that chewable pepto bismol and tylenol seem to help me the most when I've been glutened... hot water bottles for the tummy, ginger or peppermint tea, and rest... lots of it.

I was diagnosed with microscopic colitis and celiac a couple of years ago.  The GI doctor prescribed a course of budesonide, which moderately helped until I tapered off.    After a lot of ups and downs over the course of 2 years, I am finally in microscopic colitis remission.  Since I am also diabetic, I was started on metformin and Jardiance.  Metformin by itself helped moderately.  I added Jardiance and I was much better.  I stopped the metformin and relapsed and when I added it back, I regained remission.  I think metformin and Jardiance helped my colitis because they reduce inflammation in the gut.  Metformin is known to favorably modulate the gut microbiome and reduce inflammatory cytokines.  Similarly, emerging evidence supports the anti-inflammatory properties of SGLT2 inhibitors like Jardiance.  Once I was on both, the diarrhea stopped completely, even though nothing else ever worked long-term.  There is a Facebook group that can be very informative and helpful.  Look for "Microscopic Colitis and Lymphocytic Colitis Support Group.  You will find that members of the Facebook group identify other pathways to remission of microscopic colitis.

Hello, @Mrs Wolfe, I crushed three vertebrae moving a chest of drawers.  I take a combination of Thiamine Vitamin B1, Vitamin B12, and Pyridoxine B6.  Together these vitamins have an analgesic effect.  I think it works better than OTC pain relievers.   I also like  "Takeda ALINAMIN EX Plus Vitamin B1 B6 B12 Health Supplementary from Japan 120 Tablets" .   It's all three vitamins together in one pill.  Works wonderfully!

It's the Potassium Iodide in the HRT pills that is triggering Dermatitis Herpetiformis and the increased IGG levels.   The thyroid is stimulated by the Potassium Iodide, which stimulates immune cells to make more IGG antibodies.   Thiamine Vitamin B1 helps the thyroid function.  I like Benfotiamine and TTFD Thiamax.
