I am having minor surgery on Friday. Is anyone aware whether IV drips and anesthesia used during surgery are gluten-free?

If it is an IV it is going directly into your blood stream and not into your stomach and intestines where it would do damage. So you are not likely to have a problem.

If you are still worried, call the hospital or dr and see what they will be using. Get the manufacturer name and then give them a call to check ingredients. This is the easiest way to get the most reliable answers on medications.

I heard the pharmacist who put together the glutenfreedrugs.com site (which sadly is out of date now) talk and he said 1) IV drugs simply do not have gluten and 2) Even if they did it would be a problem. I've never heard of anybody who thought they were glutened by an IV.
