Imodium While Pregnant

I am a month pregnant and last week I had to take Imodium because I accidently ate gluten. Does anyone know if it is safe to take Imodium while you are pregnant? I really can not live with out my Imodium for 9 months. I try my best not to eat gluten but when I do Imodium is my savior. Also does anyone know if it is safe to take Fiberchoice while pregnant? I get constipated a lot and I hear it only gets worse while you are pregnant.

Somebody just posted the other day that immodium contains gluten, so you might want to look for another product.

Ursa Major Collaborator

Actually, the liquid Immodium contains gluten, the pills have corn (which is important to know if you're intolerant to corn as well, as I am).

I think the pills are probably safe while pregnant. But to be sure I'd check with your doctor.

Read the ingredients of fiberchoice. If it is all natural fiber (which you can get in food, too) without any chemicals, I don't see why it shouldn't be safe. Again, check with your doctor.

I found that eating plenty of fruit while pregnant, has eliminated constipation. So, if you like fruit, buy a lot of it. I usually eat three to four pieces of fruit a day. It is also good for the baby! :D

I never took Immodium so I can't tell you if it's safe or not - best to check with your doctor. It has been very hard to find medication that:

1. Is ok for pregnancy

2. Is gluten free.

Good luck!!!! Try real hard not to get glutened during pregnancy! Please! It will mean a healthier baby in the end!!

Also, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I have heard from a fellow celiac disease that when she accidently gets Gluten she takes alka seltzer. None of that worked for me. My OB said immodium was fine for preg, check with yoru doc first of course. Most will tell u over phone.

I cheated a lot too on my diet when preg but i am now strictly gluten-free bc I know how serious it is now. It can affect the baby, even though u think it might not and i was blessed that thus far it worked out ok except for all my trouble bfing. But untreated celiac disease while preg can lead to miscarriage and low birth weight baby. Just a warning. If u are having trouble with tummy stuff whle preg remember to try Ener-G gluten-free crackers, taste very good just like regular crackers and never have an empty tummy. That is horrible for morning sickness to have an empty tummy. Also try ginger pills, ginger tea and the seabands. Try your best to go celiac disease but if u do mess up just start over again. We all accidentally get it but as a mommy to be u need to be very careful, dont make the same mistakes I did! Good luck Amy

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
