6 Month Endoscopy Results

I had my 6 month endoscopy last week. My results were ready on Monday. When I had my first endoscopy 6 months ago, the dr. told me that he could see nothing wrong, but when the pathology report came in, it showed significant inflammation. My esophagus was very inflammed and diagnosed dysphagia/celiac disease. He placed me on a gluten free diet and prescribed nexium. After my 2nd endoscopy, he told me that my biopsy looked better. The results came back and it still shows significant inflammation in the small intestine. I have followed this diet to the T and know now what it feels like to get glutened, the D, the nausea, etc. The pathologist is not sure if the problem is GERD or Celiac. My blood test 6 months ago was positive. I'm mad, confused, frustrated with the doctor. Had to vent. Tara

Tara:

Did he do the blood test again to see if it's negative this time. It took me quite a long time to heal after daignosis. Is there a possibility you are getting small amounts of gluten which is not making you ill but still causing the damage?

A blood test was done, but I have not gotten the results yet. Maybe I am still getting gluten in my system. You're problably right. I will need to look more closely at med, etc. What about external stuff, like shampoo, soap, etc. I do not have skin break down.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
