It's NOT cancer!!!!!!!!!! Woooohhoooooo! Oh thank God.

Turns out, it's another autoimmune disease- go figure. Sarcoidosis.

She's got to go in for some tests and x-rays to see if the lesions are on her lungs, liver, etc. Generally, Sarcoidosis is treated with steroids, which may be tricky for her, but hey-- it's not cancer!

God, what a weight off!

I would say that this was the one and only disappointment in our UK adventure........the PB was quite heinous. I ate it anyway to avoid interfering withdrawal symptoms, but 'twas nothing like the classic North American stuff..... . ..

I would do well over there, actually. I would NOT eat the PB that I do, and the infamous ten pounds would be gone.....

Thank you, you guys!!!!!!!   Honestly, the worry and feelings of dread were getting so bad, I haven't even been making any plans past today. Or no, I was already making plans-- who can I call in to take turns watching my kids so I can take my mom to chemo, etc... It was such a weird situation, with the doctor thinking a mistake had been made two years ago, that we were just so scared... that this was gonna be bad.

BUT IT'S NOT!!! :D

Not that Sarcoidosis is fun, you know, oh great another autoimmune disease, load the poor woman up. But it's manageable.

No, you know what? I'm gonna make her a cake, and write, "Happy Sarcoidosis Day" on it. She'd appreciate the humor in that. ;)

I hereby apologize in advance if anyone sees the above and takes offense.

Yeah, how can they screw up peanut butter? Maybe superfluous ingredients?

That sounds like a great idea! I'm sure she'd get a kick out of it :)

SARAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Really great news! What a relief. And no, I don't think any of us are offended by yer sarcoidosis cake. In fact, maybe you could decorate it with frosting images of the offending cells?  you know, flesh-coloUred blotches all over it......

Susie, what did you hate about it? Was it just bad?

House of Sand and Fog goes down as the most depressing and non-redemptive book I've EVER read. Sad people, sad, awful situations, and a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE ending. I couldn't even trade the book in, just threw it away.

I'm reading too many books now. Must commit to just one and phinish it.

O?

Dr.Oz Knows about Siiliac . and we found out that the gene for silliac is right next to the gene for misspelling thigs on the internet.

and BTW Dr. Oz BARELY knows about celiac.......... HARRUMPH! So Llama Lady Oprah, could you please send him here to our cozy thread? We'll straighten him out........AND HOW.........

Okay.......about this UK peanut butter issue.......I think when the weather cools I'm goign to have to send Nik a jar of Skippy Naturals pb (is that illegal? )..........'tis heaven in a jar......and THEN she can see what it's truly like, maybe she can become a wealthy peanut butter magnate (or typhoon/taifun?, as Rinne likes to say  ), importing it into England by the buttload.

I'm feeling playful and mad  and got no one to play wif today.

Is it just that theirs is 3 ingred, instead of our 3 inches of ingred?? Sugars, emulsifiers etc

Or is there something downright alien about it?

This is a good question.....I'm comparing it to the President's Choice "Just Peanuts" brand (better even than Skippy, Susie.....and cheaper!)....nothing there but peanuts. The Stuff in London that I found (two different brands, both yucky) had more than peanuts, but I believe only sodium and a couple of other things....the list was very short, anyway. Tasted rather....hmmmm....stale?.......old, dryish....a little sour, as I recall........

This is odd...as a peanut is a peanut is a peanut, one should think........

Do we all get our peanuts from the same place?

I'll bet Oracle PeOter knows.

PEEEEEEEE-TUUUUURRRRR???!!!!!!!!

Wait!!! I might know this one......you may have hit it on the head Emily, the source of their goober peas.

We grow em here fresh, maybe they don't. Maybe they import them and thus the staleness?

And then again, maybe I don't know this one

TOM!!!! I need yer expertise, or anyone familiar with Phoenix, are there any must see places to go, things to see, things to do?? Am going on a short vacay there soon :D

umm..........Em.........."just peanuts" makes me - um- gag a little.:lol: Whenever I buy just plain ol' peanuts w/ nuttin' else - can't take it. All that oil on the top - - dry and pasty at the bottom. Nope, give me some additives, any day.

Well, that's not entirely true. Here's what's on my Skippy Naturals Super Chunk label: roasted peanuts, sugar,<sugar IS natural, remember> palm oil, salt. I LURVE IT and can't get enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (well, I do eat it in moderation and forget about it, actually - - probably consumed only three times a month, maybe?)

I need to do SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many things and am procrastinating. Oh, wait, am pulling a Pseu-zee.

Julie! Phoenix, in this weather????????? OMG.........just sounds hot to me. But - Kissey was just there - he stayed somewhere fabulous - Weston? dunno........ And they went to this famous biker bar adn the bartender girl is my twin - - not kidding - - he took her picture and showed it to me - astonishing........

Oh. Wait a minute. He was in Scottsdale. Phorget all of the above.:blink::lol:

Must be them subpar europeanuts :P

 AAAAAGH!!!!! It's been 113 & 112F for a few days now, so I'll say indoors or in the pool. <_<

There's not a lotta there there, but you might want to visit Scottsdale's Old Town district and/or Tempe's Mill Ave.

Oh wait .. . .didn't you say you'd like the dry heat? There are good hiking parks all around. Lemme know how much you like heat after that.<_< (Bring 3x the amount of water you'd expect)

Here's list of other Phx stuff Open Original Shared Link

Oh. Wait a minute. He was in Scottsdale. Phorget all of the above.:blink::lol:

Nah ... Phx, Scottsdale, Tempe etc all adjacent.

Now maybe if you're staying in Glendale you wouldn't trek to Chandler, but the better known cities are all close enough.

P.S. It kinda blows my mind that you'd go to Phx voluntarily when it's 112F  , unless it's just a pit-stop on the way to Sedona or other cooler spots.

Edit P.P.S. OK, maybe I'm badmouthing it too much. I just didn't have much fun at all in my recent 2yrs there. As long as you're visiting someone whose company you enjoy - well, I guess that's a good enough reason to brave the pounding relentless demon sun.

When I could still eat peanut butter (and I loved it <_< ), I also adored the Skippy Natural! Used to eat it by the spoon :P

Tempe's Mill Ave.

Gawd, Tempe

My best friend from Kindergarten to 10th grade moved there while we were in high school in 1972. :( Her dad got a job there...it was so sad. We talked on the phone regularly for a long time, then when we had our kids, and then just now and then when a big "life happening" would occur.

Haven't talked to her in a while, though.

 Editing to fix the date--at first, I typed "1772"! I ain't quite that old :D

@knitty kitty  The information you've provided is invaluable!  I have a lot more homework to do before we make the official switch but you have significantly increased my hope that we can get her off Miralax (she started at 3 years old and is almost 8!).  This weekend my husband and I plan to solidify all the details for a start point, then adjust as we go along.  I realize that everyone's body is different, then there's also the fact that she's a child but just out of curiosity if you don't mind sharing and if you'd rather not, no problem at all-how long did you take Miralax before switching and when you switched, did you just completely stop the Miralax or was there a period where you did Miralax and the supplements?  I plan to research that piece this weekend but just curious what you did.

Scott, thanks so much for the thoughtful replies. My doctor did actually just re-order thyroid labs to see what is going on with my TPOs. I agree that will be interesting information.  I think I know the answer to this, but as far as the biopsy . . .. that would be quite conclusive as far as celiac goes, but a negative result would not rule out NCGS, correct? Does NCGS also cause damage to the lower intestine/leaky gut?  I appreciate the thought that I should be open-minded to other causes. I did not have dysautonomia on my radar, so I will look into that. From a quick scan at the potential symptoms it seems like almost anyone could convince themselves they have it, very broad! I can see why that is a tricky one to diagnose. I did also show low vitamin D, I'm in New England so that is somewhat common. I have a memory of low iron on some lab result as well but I can't find it, so I'll look into that. My cholesterol is high too, so working on that.  While the initial adjustment was tough, I have actually adapted fairly well to going gluten-free at home. The tough part for me is I love eating out and traveling, so that has been a challenge. I suppose if the answer ends up being NCGS then I could maintain a mostly gluten-free diet but also experiment with the occasional splurges. Snowboarding just doesn't feel right without a beer in the lodge . . ... cider is just not the same!  Thanks again.

I did some research and found out that vaccines put preservatives, sugar alcohols and metals in them. Which I have a intolerance too.  I was supposed to do testing to find out metal's I was allergic to because I can't  wear jewelry of any kind. Mayo felt I had other allergies also.
    • Scott Adams
For individuals who have experienced negative reactions to the flu vaccine, there are alternative formulations that may reduce the risk of allergic responses. Traditional flu vaccines are typically produced using egg-based methods, which can pose issues for those with egg allergies. However, there are now several egg-free options available, such as cell-based and recombinant flu vaccines. Recombinant Vaccines (e.g., Flublok Quadrivalent): These are produced without the use of eggs and are grown in insect cells, making them a suitable option for individuals with egg allergies. Cell-Based Vaccines (e.g., Flucelvax Quadrivalent): These vaccines are also egg-free and are produced using mammalian cell cultures, which can be a safer alternative for those with egg allergies. Other Considerations: If you have had a reaction to a specific component of the flu vaccine (e.g., gelatin, preservatives, or antibiotics), discussing your medical history with a healthcare provider is crucial. They can help identify vaccines that exclude these ingredients. It's important to consult with an allergist or healthcare provider to determine the safest option based on your specific allergies and medical history. They can also provide guidance on pre-vaccination testing or desensitization protocols if necessary. Also, at @trents mentioned, could you be getting hidden gluten in your diet? Do you eat in restaurants? If so, this could be why you still have high gluten antibodies.
    • Dawn Meyers
Mayo is great and yes I had the same experience.  They take you seriously and they check everything.  I to wish other Dr's cared that much. I sure hope it's not refractory celiac also.
