In my Living Without magazine this month I saw something maybe too good to be true.... gluten-free chicken nuggets and fish sticks?!?! I guess Ian's started making a few Allergen free products and are selling them across the country. My question is: has anyone had them, where did you buy them, and were they worth it??

YES they do and I'm pumped!!! I just called Ian's and they have gluten-free chicken nuggets, fish sticks, sweet potato fries, and mac and cheese. Their products have not yet hit store shelves but are en route. I live in Boston and they are located just outside the city and said I could come in and buy the products from the factory...if I try them next week I'll report back!

Best,

Adam

FYI - I had the fish sticks last night, and they're really good. Pretty expensive, 5.25 for a box of 8 but very tasty when you're craving something like that every once in a while. If you're missing fish sticks or chx nuggets try them out!

hey gluten-free nuggets are pretty easy to make.. just make a bread crumb mix (you can buy them, but i also enjoy a gluten-free rice or corn chex type cereal crushed up with some spices), crack an egg and scramble it, cut up the chicken, put some oil in a pan and then dip the chicken into the egg then the bread crumb mix then dump in the pan. you can make a bunch at once, and then freeze them. after defrosting them, just put them in an oven at 350 for about 15 mins or so.

i ate this twice a week last year, it totally got me through my first year of law school :)

My health food store got some Ian's gluten-free Fish Sticks in, but when the owner was stocking the freezer I man came and bought all of the boxes they had, before they were even stocked. I think he was afraid he wouldn't be able to find them agian...so I couldn't even by them.

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
