I'm vacationing in the San Diego and LA area at the end of March. Finding a place where I can eat with

my family is always an issue. Does anyone know where I can find a list of gluten-free restaurants in the area?

Or, are there any recomendations of specific places?

Thanks,

Mary Lewis

If you'll be visiting Disneyland/California Adventure and plan to eat in the parks pick places that require reservations and tell them of the Celiac. After being at DisneyWorld I know Disney will work to make your dining experience very pleasant and gluten free. The other places to try would be the turkey leg stands, popcorn stands, fruit, and most of the other places will allow you to buy sides. My daughter likes to eat mashed potatoes and they should allow you to just purchase a side of potatoes. They also allow you to bring in snacks so I always make sure to bring in plenty of things my daughter can eat.

Other great places to eat in So. Cal....In and Out Burger. The burgers are fresh and yummy. Ask for it "protein style" and the burger and toppings come in a lettuce wrap. The fries are made there. The potatoes are peeled and sliced and then fried. There should be no hidden gluten there. The fryers are just french fry fryers (they only serve burgers and fries).

My family loves El Pollo Loco. You might check their website to see if they give any indication as to what seasonings (and possible fillers) might be in the seasoning.

Hope this helps.

I ate at In-n-Out last night. My understanding is that the sauce on the burgers is not gluten free but I could bw wrong. In fact, I'd love to wrong.

Chipotle is gluten free if you get the crispy tacos, but there is risk of CC.

There are tons of good sushi places in socal.

Vietnamese food is a great choice in LA or the San Gabriel valley. I've had very good luck, but I have the advantage that my wife and family can speak to the cooks to check, but much of it seems to be gluten free without modification.

I emailed In-and-Out and they called me within two hours to discuss their menu.

Although gluten "could" be hiding in some sub ingredient she said it didn't appear to be in their sauce. The sauce is pretty much mayo, ketchup and relish. She had checked over the labels and didn't see anything with wheat/gluten listed.

I also asked about the shakes (and man are they yummy) and she said the ice cream used doesn't have gluten/wheat in it.

Overall I was really impressed how fast they got back to me. My daughter loves In and Out and I bought gluten free buns yesterday and she can't wait to go...and have them make it protein style and put it on her bun!

My daughter isn't as sensitive to gluten as some so it really depends on how concerned you are about cc.

What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.

I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).

I have a One Pot and decided to start using it one day. I was hesitant at first making my own yogurt, but was surprised at how easy it was. I like mine better too.

Because I spend so much time reading every word on all food packaging, I personally would greatly appreciate it if there was one common gluten-free symbol written in large-enough text, and always located in the same place. That alone will make shopping easier and faster. I dread having to buy packaged food. Thank you very much for asking,
