Once again my posts have been deleted without explanation or comment.... just like they were never there???

Meanwhile there is a thread with several rule violations where people are mentioning there own websites.

Why are posts deleted or the whole thread so far as I can see in one thread and another has incvreasing rule violations and not a peep from a mod?

Hi Steve :) ,

First, the only one who can delete a post (other than the person who posted) is Scott. The mods can render a thread "invisable", but it's never actually deleted. Sometimes we do that if a thread has gotten particularly nasty, or if the member only posted to sell something. It is then up to Scott what will be done with it. We (mods) do not have the capability to render a single post invisable.

Be assured that whenever I see a website being featured in someone's signature, I report it. You would not be aware of this, as only the mods and Scott would see the report. There would be some lag time between the report, and the link being gone.

Anytime you see something that you feel is against the rules (we are only human, and are not on all the time), you can hit the "report" button and report it yourself. ;)

Richard,

I'm not sure if this is the thread Steve was referring to, but yesterday someone posted for the first time claiming that he "cured" his Celiac Disease. There was at least one complaint that I remember, and this morning, the thread is gone.

Steve, in a case like this, anyone who happened to post in the thread will have had their post (s) deleted. A little like an innocent bystander :D

One new poster assualted me. Steve missed it, but it was after one of his posts that she got nasty. I called her on it, she got nastier. The WHOLE THING was deleted starting with Steve's post. One of my posts that should have been deleted wasn't, so you can still see it there and all it says is "deleted post". If that's the thread, Steve, that's what happened. I agree that your post didn't need to be deleted, but the rest did.

Carla-I can't believe anybody would be nasty to you, you are always so helpful. Some people are just so rude.

I actually belong to another forum, and it is for adults who have braces well in the last week we had a new poster who got banned. She came on explaining her treatment and then started asking all sorts of questions for pictures and different things. When people questioned her she got very nasty and would get all fired up. I know a few members reported her as being a fetish poster looking for pictures of girls.

It is horrible when people come in and disrupt the community.

Thank you. I may not have come across nice to her ;) ... she jumped on Steve, rudely, and, like I said, I called her on it, pointed out to her that her assessment was incorrect. She was insulting to ALL members of the board, actually, in the things she said, including the first poster who needed support. I explained to her, without lowering myself to her level, how wrong she was. I just couldn't let someone come on here and make that kind of blanket judgments about all of us. Scott deleted all the posts, as he should have. Steve's post was one of the ones that got deleted ... I'm betting that's the post he's referring to. If he didn't see any of the posts that were deleted, it would seem his was singled out, but it wasn't ... I would say about 10 posts were deleted altogether.

To hijack the thread momentarily, how are the braces going? My ortho says I'll get mine off early, in 9-12 months!! YAY! I can't believe how much better my teeth are looking!

Actually, good news! I was there on Monday, and we are looking at finshing in May or June. It will be nice, in time for the October wedding. We are waiting on the gaps to close where I had two teeth pulled. It is very tiny, so not much left.

Good news for you. Early removal is a good sign. I too am amazed at how much nicer they look. I cannot wait until they are finished. Overall it has been a good experience.

That is good news!

Overall this has been a good experience for me, too. The most important thing is that my TMJ feels better. I was worried about wearing all stainless steel braces at 43, but I quickly learned that NO ONE CARES! I've never had a negative comment about them. Sometimes I wear red lipstick just to show off my most expensive fashion accessory!!

I have to say they are my most expensive as well, I got clear ones because I too was worried about the look. I am happy I paid the extra money for them, it was worth it.

I've been wondering about deleted posts also. If a post does not get a response, is it then deleted? I've posted a couple of times about an IgG antibody test I had done, but it suddenly disappeared. Is it because no one responded?

Just curious.

Thanks

Kathy

That wasn't an option for me.

Hubby wears invisalign though. It's done wonders for his teeth and he's been able to bleach them while they're moving.

A post is deleted because it has violated the board rules. If a thread gets into arguement mode, Scott has the option of deleting the entire thread.

Sorry, next time I'll be sure you get the memo -- Carla's arguing on such and such a thread! And, it wasn't at night. ;) You just plain missed it! LOL

As for a thread with no responses, if you are using the "view new posts", it won't show up if it hasn't had any responses. Otherwise, it still should be there in the section where you posted it.

I was offered that but I declined because I didn't trust myself.

If you started a thread that violated rules you would have heard about it. I'm guessing nobody replied and your post disappeared from "view new posts."

I also have had some of my replies disapear, and I know darn well they were not rude or violating any rules. At first I second guessed myself, wondering what I did wrong. But just figured it was a glitch on the board.

k,

Here's what I do. Click on "Gluten-Free Celiac Disease Forum at Celiac.com (Home)" above, under your name. Make that your shortcut on your desktop. When you use it to come to the forum, scroll near the bottom and click on "today's active topics" (in Board Statistics). Now you will see all the posts, no matter how many times or how often you visit.

Just to update you all, my daughter had her appointment and I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied. Her coeliac results were the highest possible so she only needs a further blood test, which they did there and then to confirm there’s been no lab mix up. The doctor was convinced that the constipation was a result of the coeliac and felt that she may not be impacted, just slow moving. He felt the new diet will fix the constipation among many other things. I’m so relieved! Thank you for your support.

Note also that the amount of problematic protein (gliadin) that is found in breast milk of women having a normal gluten containing diet varies but is very small. Although the study referenced below says 'very high', the amounts detected vary between undetectable and a maximum of 1.2 parts per million. Breast milk is considered safe for infants with coeliac disease even if the mother consumes gluten.   https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9867098/

Welcome to the forum, @Pua! Yes, many, many forum participants have been in this same boat. That is, suspecting celiac disease and testing the waters by going gluten free but then realizing they undermined the ability to bet tested for it by doing so. It's a very common mistake??? but a completely understandable decision making sequence. The symptoms you describe in both you and your son are strongly suggestive of celiac disease or at least NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). It is also true that a high percentage of those with celiac disease (one small study found it to be 50%) react to CMP (Cow's Milk Protein) like they do the gluten in wheat/barley/rye. And about 10% of celiacs also cross react to the protein in oats (avenin).  Although it doesn't seem prudent at this point to seek testing for celiac disease since it would require you and your son to be eating regular amounts of gluten for weeks leading up to the test, it might be helpful to seek genetic testing to see if you and he have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease. If you don't have any of the celiac genes, you should look at NCGS instead. Genetic testing doesn't require a "gluten challenge". Are you nursing your son? You might look into a hypo allergenic baby formula called Neutrogena.
    • Scott Adams
Aloha! It sounds like you've been through so much with your own health and now your son's too—I completely understand why you're questioning celiac for all of you. Your symptoms and family history really do line up with what many experience with celiac disease. It’s common for it to be missed by doctors who end up treating the symptoms separately, as you described. For toddlers, celiac can definitely show up as constipation, stomach pain, poor growth, rashes, and recurring ear infections, just like your son is experiencing. In little ones, the digestive system can be especially sensitive, and gluten can trigger a wide range of symptoms that often go undiagnosed. Since you’ve already cut gluten and are seeing improvements, that’s a pretty strong indicator that gluten may be the underlying cause for both of you. Some families do choose to stay gluten-free without testing, especially when the gluten challenge feels too risky or uncomfortable. As for progression, yes, celiac can worsen over time if untreated, which might explain why your dad’s health is more severe. It can also look different from person to person, so it’s not unusual for you and your dad to have varying symptoms. If you do want to explore testing without a full gluten challenge, you might consider genetic testing (HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8), which can show if you or your son are at risk, though it won’t confirm celiac on its own. If you did want to confirm this with blood screening unfortunately you would need to eat lots of gluten daily for 6-8 weeks leading up to the test.
    • Scott Adams
I just want to add that many celiacs do not have any obvious symptoms, but still have the same health risks if they continue to eat gluten. Unless all of her first-degree relatives, including yourself, are screened for celiac disease, there is not way to be sure that other relatives don't also have it (some studies have shown that up to 44% of first degree relatives also have celiac disease). This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.
