Enzymes....they Don't Make Me Feel Too Good

I've been on enzymes for 2 1/2 days, now......one with each meal. Because I go to a celiac dr., I didn't feel it was necessary to check that the enzymes he prescribed were gluten-free. Are they generally gluten-free or do you need to be really careful? I don't feel good at all every time I take them. The ones I am taking are made by "Global" and they're labeled as "Lipram CR10". Thanks to anyone who can help.

Not all enzymes are gluten-free, and you should always check what the doctor prescribes, even if they are a celiac disease specialist. Doctors don't always know all the ingrdients in what they are prescribing. I checked out the Global Pharmaceuticals website and they list the product you are taking, but not the ingredients list. You may want to contact them regarding this issue. Open Original Shared Link

It might be that the product is gluten-free, but you have to get used to having enough enzymes in your system to actually digest the food properly. Or it might be that there is something else in them that you cannot tolerate. Or it could be something else you ate, but I wouldn't think that was it if you have been feeling bad after taking the enzymes each day, since obviously your food intake would change from day to day.

I don't feel like I've been much help, but I do hope you are feeling better again soon.

I've tried a few enzymes and they really upset my system(GI)-they were all gluten-free.

Maybe you could tolerate a different brand.

One company I'm having luck with is Enzymatic Threapy Products-I use Mega Zyme digestive enzymes with no problems at all.

I also use there Vitamins and Calcium.

And as a side note....Most Doc's have NO idea if there meds have gluten let alone nutritional supps.

Thanks to both of you. Mariann, I e-mailed the company and if I don't get a response, I'll call them. Thanks for finding that for me :) . SteveW, I was interested to hear your experience with enzymes....I was wondering if perhaps enzymes caused others to feel badly, even if they're gluten-free. I guess you are right about meds....my old GI once suggested that I use Gas-X to deal with bloating <_< ....i thought as he was a celiac dr., he might know, but he might be just as clueless about meds./supplements. Thanks to both of you for replying. Now I'll just wait for a reply from Global and then take it from there.

I got a reply from Global (thanks for the link, again :)) They're gluten-free....

Yes, Lipram CR-10 is gluten-free.

The first 2 brands I took caused me upset stomach and cramping along with urgent needs to go to the bathrooms within 24 hrs of taking them.

The one I'm currently taking has no side effects for me.

Do they work?

-I would say yes. My BM are down from 3-4 a day to 1-2 and they're not as urgent. Very little cramping and if I do get cramps/pain I take a few more enzymes and that calm things down. I was total grain free for a while and for the past week I've been eating rice again without the GI problems I previously having.

      Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic.       Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce. Something is making my pain so much worse I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs. Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever...

In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
