Blood Tests

GlutenFree-Amy

GlutenFree-Amy Newbie

Hi All! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Amy and I'm from Illinois. I'm new here and this is my first post. I just got the results of my blood test today. Just curious... Do you think I have to have the biopsy done if I got these numbers...

Reference for both IGA and IGG test:

less than 19 - Neg.

20-30 - weak positive

31+ - positive

IGA antibodies - 185

IGG antibodies - 437

I showed a local doctor who also has it and she said that the numbers were really high. When she had her test done, she was at 155 for IGA and declined the biopsy. The family practice clinic i went to has never given the test before, therefore never diagnosing the disease. After reading about celiac sprue everywhere lately, and doing some research on the symptoms, I called them and asked for the test. My symptoms included chronic diarreah for about 3 years, (about 6 months after my first son was born), then more symptoms started showing up about 2-3 months ago, about 1 month after I had my 2nd son. The new symptoms included malabsorption of nutrients (I was low in Mg, K and Calcium), horrible fatique (couldn't take care of my 3.5 year old and 1 month old), nausea and vommitting, etc... Basically I had very classic symptoms. I also have some questions on whether I should have my infant tested (I'll probably wait until they have to draw blood for something with my toddler, he's seems to be doing fine). I go see a GI Specialist on Aug. 10.

Thanks for the help, words of advice, etc... in advance.

Amy

Hi Amy welcome

Getting a biopsy is totally up to you if you have insurance then I say ok you got that covered and you can see how much damage that you have, I you don't have insurance and money is an issue then you may not want to do it. Having the numbers might be enough, but the others here could tell you more.

I agree with little d on the biopsy....totally a personal choice! I wanted to know how much damage was done, so I had one.

Pregnancy seemed to be my trigger too, although I have had symptoms all my life. I had my son tested, he's 2 and he was negative. Having them tested is also up to you....are they showing any symptoms? my son wasn't but I wanted to know.

I also had fatigue really bad and couldn't keep up with my little guy. After about 2 weeks on teh diet I saw improvemnt and now I feel like a new person!

Good Luck!

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
