Andrea Biopsy Update

Andrea had her procedure today. Everything went well and there were no complications. Dr. Al-Tawil found Lymphonodular Hyperplasia in the descending colon, cecum, ascending colon, transverse colon, sigmoid colon and rectum. We will not have the biopsy results for 2 weeks. We have an appointment to discuss the results on 2-12.

We are now continuing the STRICT Gluten Free diet. Dr. Al-Tawil warned us that not doing so could lead to more significant health problems such as Lymphoma and Cancer.

We are home now and Andrea is eating well and resting.

We have an appointment with the nutritionist on Tuesday.

I would love any thoughts on this as my mind is spinning and we are sleep deprived from the bowel prep, long drive and early morning!

We didn't do the biopsy so I'm not sure what any of that stuff means. But I just wanted to give you (((hugs))) for surviving that and to say I'm glad she's doing well! :)

Have you considered making your house gluten-free or how you're going to prevent cross contamination (if the house isn't gluten-free?)? And you really do have to be insanely careful or you'll end up with a pretty sick little one. My DD started having much more severe reactions to even the teeniest crumb once she was off gluten.

Multivitamins are generally not potent enough to effective address significant deficiencies.

Try a multivitamin maybe it will cover what you are deficient in.

Agreed, and I can't remember exactly and haven't got time to check, but I think my blood didn't normalise for eight years! For years I read this forum thinking why can't I get my numbers down - everyone else manages to.   But my gastroenterologist didn't seem to worry about it, which makes me think he either thought I wasn't complying to the diet, or he'd seen similar cases.

Yes, being off gluten for 3 months would likely yield negative results. To get accurate testing redone you would need to restart gluten consumption for several weeks (the "gluten challenge") to the tune of at least 10g of gluten daily (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread).

That is one of the tests covered in the article I linked you above.
