Cherry Tart

Cherry Tart Apprentice

Hello All!

I've wrote last summer about my friend Annette who opened up Sweet Addictions bakery in Montclair, CA. She makes specialty gluten-free goodies and cakes (including Wedding cakes!). I just wanted to let you guys know that she will have a booth at the Celiac Conference in Los Angeles on May 3. Annette will bring a variety of goodies to taste and purchase! I shall be loitering at her booth, eating myself into a brownie coma :P

Hope to see you there! :)

Hi Hippiegirl!

Sweet Addictions opened up less than a year ago - it is in the northwest part of Montclair. Annette always has gluten free goodies on Thursdays. However, she makes gluten-free items per order throughout the week. Note, she does make regular wheat based baked goods too. She has taken great precautions to avoid cross contamination - she thoroughly wipes everything down between baking, stores the gluten-free and wheat supplies seperately, uses dedicated baking utensils/pans, and keeps the gluten-free items on seperate shelves in the display case. She has quite a few G.F. items offer: peanut butter or choc chip cookies, blondies, banana bread, cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, lemon bars, mini pecan pies, decorated birthday/wedding cakes (by order only), and frosted brownies (since the gluten-free brownies came out so great - she doesn't even serve gluten based ones - these are the only G.F. goodies available all week!). I suggest calling on Wed or Thurs AM to check availability and ask them to set some things aside for you - she usually sells out of the gluten-free goods before the end of the day. If interest grows, she will offer gluten-free items on other days. My favorites are the brownies and the chocolate cupcakes with caramel frosting! Here's her web address: Open Original Shared Link I know I sound like a cheesy commercial but, I want everyone to know about her wonderful bakery!

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
