Ghirardelli White Chocolate Baking Chips

Gluten-Free in NYC

Gluten-Free in NYC Newbie

Hello there! I wanted to give a shout out! I noticed a post about Gluten-Free WHITE chocolate baking chips-but when I logged back in I could not find the topic. I wanted to INFORM you, that White Chocolate Baking Chips from Ghirardelli are NOT GLUTEN FREE!!!!

One person on this site posted a question , if someone could provide a list of gluten free white chocolate for baking purposes.

Another person replied to the Post saying to use the Ghirardelli White chocolate baking chips for gluten free cooking. Well FYI, Ghirardelli White chips do in fact have gluten in them.

I only know this because I called the manufacturer and emailed them, and they advised that the Milk, Semi Sweet, Bittersweet, 60% dark cacco are all gluten free. However, the chunks are not. The chunks have barely Malt.

Now the White chips are NOT MANUFACTURED in the Ghirardelli Facility. They are outsourced by another manufacturer and sold under the Ghirardelli label. Now the white chips do have gluten through cross contamination, and that my friend is a biggie!! The Ghirardelli sales rep confirmed that they are aware there is gluten in the white chips and they have made a point to change the packaging to address on the package that the white chips are not gluten free. Unfortunately I never saw and still dont see the "contains Gluten" on the packaging.

Anyways, just wanted to give an FYI to those peeps baking with the White Ghirardelli chocolates.

The white chips are NOT SAFE.

(The following comment is not on Ghirardelli products, rather a more general statement)

I don't think we're going to see a "contains gluten" on the packaging unless there is a wheat, barley, or rye ingredient. We might get a "produced in a facility that also processes...." warning if there is a "potential" cross contamination issue. By definition, all cross contamination is of a "potential" nature. Since there is no known amount of gluten ingredients that are intentionally added, and the cross contamination is inadvertant, it could be a major cross contamination, a minor contamination, or no contamination.

best regards, lm

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
