Lotion, Lipstick, Toothpaste, Etc?

Hey guys! I'm 19 and was just diagnosed Sept. 13. I have the diet pretty much down and I've seen a deitician, but I just read some posts about gluten free lotion and lipstick and toothpaste etc.

We can't have gluten on our skin? How does that affect us?

It absorbs enough to matter?

This is probably pretty basic knowledge, but I'd appreciate any info you guys have. A lot of stuff on the internet is pretty sketchy.

Thank you!

Some celiacs are more sensitive and have to be stricter than others. It is mostly a matter of trial and error to find our own level of sensitivity. Common sense would say that the less we expose ourselves to gluten the less likely we are to react.

The problem with lipstick, chapstick, toothpaste, is that they all get in your mouth (unavoidable), and we alll should avoid gluten in these.

Some people can get away with gluten in shampoo and lotion, cleansers, etc., while others can't. Some of us are more susceptible to cross-contamination than others. Some can consume products where the label says they were processed in the same facility as gluten products, some cannot. You will probably find these things out for yourself as you become aware of your reactions. It does make sense to degluten your house as much as possible, though.

Wow ok that's really interesting. I guess I just hadn't thought much about gluten outside of eating it. Thank you for your reply! I really appreciate your insight. I'll go through my cupboards and gauge my reactions to things. Thank you!

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
