:unsure:I have been lucky and I just got engaged! I am so happy! But I am also overwhelmed by the amount of things that we will need to do in a relatively short period and among those things are finding my gluten-free wedding cake. I live close to Philadelphia, Bucks County, PA. There was a bakery (Ritts Bakery) in Philly but they closed now. Does anybody know about any bakery who would do gluten-free wedding cakes and that also deliver? (Ritts did not deliver, anyway, and I have no idea how we would transport it to the ceremony site) Please help![/ color]

I know this store has ordered gluten-free wedding cakes for customers. They are about 15 minutes across the PA/NJ border taking Rt 95. Ask them for help.

To bad you don't live in New York. There is a great bakery on Long island that does great gluten free birthday & wedding cakes. They also have gluten-free individual desserts. If you are ever in the area check them out. Sweet Karma Desserts in East Meadow NY - Sweetkarmadesserts.com

Mr. Ritts Bakery in Millvile NJ is where I am getting mine. It costs 2-3 dollars per serving and you get the layers frozen. He will not frost it for you, but a friend is doing that the day of the wedding for me. There is another place in Bridgeton NJ called Lily (I think) but the cake is 14 dollars per head...yikes! The cakes are beautiful though.

      Celiac for dummies

      I was just diagnosed at 26 after accidental finding. Any simple tips for newbies? Things a non celiac would never think of? I already went through my prescriptions and identified some medications that have gluten. Is there a beginners guide? Celiac for dummies?

      Wow! Thank you @trents I really appreciate the responses. This line of diagnosis has me questioning a lot of symptoms over the course of my life. Very validating and very much a bummer at the same time.

      Wow! You're pretty young to have a diagnosis of SMA syndrome. But youth also has its advantages when it comes to healing, without a doubt. You might be surprised to find out how your health improves and how much better you feel once you eliminate gluten from your diet. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that, when gluten is consumed, triggers an attack on the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestines where all our nutrition is absorbed. It is made up of billions of tiny finger-like projections that create a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the person with celiac disease, unchecked gluten consumption generates inflammation that wears down these fingers and, over time, greatly reduces the nutrient absorbing efficiency of the small bowel lining. This can generate a whole host of other nutrient deficiency related medical problems. We also now know that the autoimmune reaction to gluten is not necessarily limited to the lining of the small bowel such that celiac disease can damage other body systems and organs such as the liver and the joints and cause neurological problems.  It can take around two years for the villous lining to completely heal but most people start feeling better well before then. It's also important to realize that celiac disease can cause intolerance to some other foods whose protein structures are similar to gluten. Chief among them are dairy and oats but also eggs, corn and soy. Just keep that in mind.
