Are these symptoms of Celiac disease: itchy with no rash and bumps (almost like pimples) in the scalp area? Thank you, Jan

Itching with no rash sounds like something else. For example (I'm not saying this is your problem, just throwing out a suggestion)... if your liver and gallbladder are really stressed, they can start leaking bile salts. Very itchy! When was the last time you had a CBC?

Bumps on your scalp could be a reaction to gluten or something else in your shampoo... or maybe eczema, an infection, insects... it's something to ask a dermatologist about.

For me, itchy scalp and bumpy areas go hand in hand with ingesting too much dairy or gluten. It also returns when I use any product with dairy or gluten in it. I know that some people say that you cannot abosrb gluten and I believe that as well, but I can assure you that my skin does react to products with gluten or dairy in them (and I am definitely not eating them by mistake or otherwise). I am not celiac, but gluten sensitive.

I have been monitioring my dd. (Her sis is gluten intolerant) She has been a vegan for 5 months so no dairy (99%). She's been mostly gluten-free maybe 80%. On Dec. 31 she had gluten pie crust and Ritz crackers. The next day her keratosis pilaris flared up on her upper arms (bumpy hard pimples that don't itch). She had pimply bumps on her head during the summer.

Then on Jan. 2 she had a packaged rice and bean mix that had gluten and barley in it and the next morning her head itched alot. So we are back to gluten-free, hopefully 100%. She doesn't have any other symptoms. I think she is allergic to wheat. Monitor what you eat. Go gluten-free for several days and then try some wheat and see if you react.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.

It's not uncommon to experience some bleeding with hemorrhoids but I doubt enough to materially effect your iron levels. About your constipation. Are you getting enough fiber in your diet? 25-30 grams per day is the adult recommendation. Eggs and chicken have zero fiber. One medium apple or one average banana will have about 3 g. of fiber. A serving of oatmeal will have 3-4 g. Just to give you an idea. It's harder than you think to get 25-30 g of fiber. You have to plan for it and work at it. Getting plenty of hydration is important as well.

Someone said this could be due to my hemorrhoids. On March 17, 2024 my ferritin level was 23.
