Shortness Of Breath

Need help...

The first week after going gluten free I was feeling fantastic...like switching from black and white tv to HDTV. Second week was just kinda normal (had one accidental ingestion). Now this week it's like my old self...like I'm dying or something.

I can deal with the fatigue, depression, and brain fog, but the shortness of breath is almost unbearable.like someone has a hand around my throat.

This normal at all? Also just got a massive stomach ache after eating cottage cheese, I'd like to suppose they are connected.

Hi, is it shortness of breath or kinda like feeling like you can't take a deep breath at all? Like can't really expand your lungs fully or that someone is sitting on your chest? That might be an odd question but I ask for a reason.

I can take a deep breath, but yea i suppose it feels like someone is sitting on my chest.

I get like that too it feels like a small child is sitting on my chest sometimes when I eat gluten I had my heart checked and the doc just gave me an asthma puffer. I noticed it last time I had a cold too and I am sure I didn't eat gluten so I just put it down to the gluten problem gave me asthma.

If anyone knows what it could be please let me know. Thanks

My not being able to take a deep breath and the feeling like someone was sitting on me was because of a severe magnesium deficiency brought on by the celiac. I took supplements and it went away.

interesting..i have been taking a centrum vitamin two times a day for the past few months...how much did you take?

Hi Darko, I occasionally suffer from shortness of breath too. My doctor said that the likelihood was that it was a result of the poor vit and mineral absorption because of damaged intestines.

I know you say you take a multivitamin but even these can be poorly absorbed. I think my shortness of breath arises due to me getting slightly anemic sometimes. To alleviate this I make sure I have a higher than usual intake of Iron as well as sub lingual B vitamins, particularly b12 and folic acid (sublingual which passes directly into your body rather than having to be digested by your damaged intestines). Green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale and cabbage are also great against anemia especially if they're raw (cooking can destroy a great deal of the vitamin content).

You may not be anemic but I think the shortness of breath comes as a result of poor vit digestion so as your intestines recover so should your breathlessness.

All the best

Tom :)

After I stopped eating gluten I developed some new allergies. If I eat peach I get a rapid asthma response. Maybe you are having an asthma-allergy response to something you eat a little of all the time?

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?

Yes Bobs redmill cgf oatmeal I started when I became gluten-free. So taking all 3 with breakfast should work? Will I notice any reactions getting used to these or should I be fine. Thanks

Hello, @pilber309, welcome to the forum! Are you currently consuming dairy?   You mentioned something about lots of yogurt and cheese, but did you cut it out or are you eating lots of it?   Could you clarify please? Some people with Celiac react to casein, the protein in dairy the same as to gluten with antibodies and villi damage.

You may want to skip the oatmeal.  I believe you're trialing a gluten free diet while waiting for an appointment with your doctor in the new year and doing a gluten challenge then.  Some people with Celiac disease react to the protein in oats called avenin the same as to gluten.  Cross contamination between oats and gluten containing grains is possible.  Are you consuming certified gluten free oats?   I would hate for you to have a reaction to the oats and blame it on the vitamins. Yes, it will be fine to take them all together.  I take mine all together, B Complex, Benfotiamine and TTFD Thiamine with breakfast. If you're really anxious about it, just take the B Complex and Benfotiamine at breakfast and the Thiamax at lunch.  You won't have to take a second B Complex with the Thiamax.

So I purchased the Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine along with the Thiamax. I will take along with my Super B Complexes. I stopped taking the multi vitamins. Should I take all 3 vitamins/supplements together with my morning oatmeal breakfast? Do you think I will experience any bad symptoms when taking them.
