I have two daughters 20 and 23 recently diagnosed with celiac. I am being biopsied tomorrow. Are there any doctors that specialize in after care in Ohio?We go to the Cleveland Clinic and Univ. Hosp in Cleveland but sometimes I wonder about things we're told.

The doctor that I am going to seems to be aware of Celiac Disease and has a willingness to work to help me. He is Dr. Sheets OD in Columbus. He is part of the Ohio Gastronterology Group, Inc. 614-457-1213. There are probably 15 doctor's in this group. He did the testing at Riverside which is just down the road from the office. My GI doctor referred me to him for further testing because they are having a hard time "confirming" the Celiac Disease. I had positive celiac disease antibodies and the biopsies are indeterminate. I also, had Dermatitis herpetiformis. I like the idea of an OD, they have as much education as a MD and they consider your whole life into the diagnostic/treatment process. I see both and get as much information as I can. Good luck

icmcaffee2,

Thanks for the information that you provided, i am near the columbus ohio area and looking for a good doc who knows about Celiac disease, i lost my doc due to retirement and havent been able to find another one that knows anything about this. what is your doc doing for the DH? I have this also and so far the skin doc's in my area have not been able to help me, he did a biopsy of the skin and said its not DH but i dont belive it cause it sounds just like what the people have on here.

I live in the Cleveland area and am currently being treated by a CCF physician. Her name is Dr. Michelle Inkster and she is a gastro-specialist out at the CCF Independence branch. Dr. Inkster was the one performed the endoscopy on me and who diagnosed me with celiac disease (after 4-months of being treated by a PHP at the Clinic).

Best of luck.....Cleveland Bob :)

I was never "officially" diagnosed with DH. For years, prior to the doctors even thinking I had Celiac Disease, I would have itchy blisters on my elbows and knees. One doctor thought it might be an allergic reaction to the carpet we have. We are raising our two grandchildren ages 3&4 and spend a lot of time on the floor. No one doctor actually examined the blisters. They itched like mad and would break. My favorite cereal was Cream of Wheats! I would eat it about 3-4 times a week! When I saw the GI and went gluten free, THATS when they said it was probably DH. I no longer have the water blisters come out, but if I have an accidential injestion of gluten, my knees and elbows really itch. Sorry I couldn't be much help for you in that area. Try Dr. Sheets he is really good. speaks clearly and very patient with the questions. I had a whole list and he didn't even roll his eyes :} If you go to them, let me know what you think. Best wishes.

Laura

P.S. e-mail is lower case L not an i :D

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
