Greasy Hair?

My 17 yr old dd washes her hair everyday. Today she washed it before and after school. Her hair was greasy even after she washed and dryed it after school. She recently changed shampoos/conditioners. She has woken up with greasy hair every morning for several years. She has been a vegan for 7 months and mostly gluten-free for several months. She is not diagnosed celiac but is gluten intolerant. Her only symptoms are overweight, keratosis pilaris on her shoulders and an itchy head when she used shampoo with wheat in it. Could she just be detoxing??

My 20 yr old had greasy hair at the back of her head when getting glutathione injections, doc said that was her liver detoxing. It stopped when the injections stopped. She is gluten intolerant.

Anyone?? Thanks!

It could be unrelated to gluten. The more you wash your hair and the more you strip the natural sebum from your scalp, the harder your scalp works to replace those natural oils. Sort of a vicious cycle. And of course the less you wash your hair, the less often you need to.

But who knows... It could be related to gluten. Gluten intolerance and celiac disease can affect every system of the body.

Hi, I'm new to this forum.I was dx with celiac by bx 1 mnth ago.My hair started to get VERY greasy last October! It was definitely something totally different for me.My B 12 level was very low.I received B12 inj and now my level is up.My hair doesn't seem as bad but I think it takes some time.I think greasy hair could be related to vitamin deficiencies, maybe check with your Dr.Hope this helps!

Update. I think we have pin pointed the cause. When my dd recently had wheat a couple of times, her head itched. All that scratching caused her sebaceous glands to secrete more oil. This past week she hasn't had any wheat and no scratching...no greasy hair. Yay!! Just shows she needs to not cheat. She's not celiac but still needs to be gluten-free. Also found out that my dh has sebaceous cysts on his back. He has had those several years, now we know what they are.

If scratching your head made your hair greasy, mine would be dripping  (psoriasis). It is parched dry, but... the oil probably can't get through the scales!!! (I used to have super oily hair).

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
