5 Years gluten-free- Still Having Health Issues

I have been strictly gluten-free since college. Some of my problems got much better, psychiatric sx, wasting, severe acne, severe bone pain. It almost seems like now I have more health issues. Lately I have still been having acne, joint pain the moves around a lot, severe colon and stomach pains, liver, spleen and kidney pain, insomnia and NO libido. I have no idea what the problem is or what to do about it. Anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like you may want to check your cosmetics/hygiene/food products again for hidden sources of gluten. Sometimes people incorporate a seemingly gluten-free item into their daily regimen only to find out later that it had gluten in it. For example, my floss had gluten and it was the last thing I thought to check!

Some people seem to see a resurgence of symptoms due to these hidden glutenings. If that's not it, you may want to schedule an appointment with a doctor to see if you have any other medical conditions.

You sound like you are in a pickle there. Have you consulted with your doctor yet? I think that would be the best advise on what they recommend. I had all those probs to, but after cutting all that gluten ingrd. out of my diet that all stopped.

Just in case here are some ingrd. that are fancy saying for gluten. I am sure you are aware of, but just to be on the safe side.

Gliadin

Globulin

Albumin

Einkom

Emmer

Spelt

Kamut

Triticale

Semolina

Durum flour

Graham flour

Bromated flour

Phosphated flour.

how are your energy levels? clear thinking? do you have very little muscle?

you may want to either do an elimination diet or start eating lots and lots of vegetables/getting plenty of water.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
