Was I Glutened By Flonase?

I've discovered that my "gluten indicator" is a wicked case of heartburn - and I have it right now! But all I've had to eat/drink today is a glass of Minute Maid orange juice. I've been sick though, and have used Tylenol Cold (Severe Congestion) Caplets and had a few shots of Flonase nasal spray. I'm pretty sure the other stuff is safe. Could it have been the Flonase? Their website is completely NOT helpful. (They don't even have an email address where I can send questions! :angry: )

Anyway - here are the ingredients:

Fluticasone propionate nasal spray 50 mg, Flonase, is an aqueous suspension of microfine fluticasone propionate for topical administration to the nasal mucosa by means of a metering, atomizing spray pump. Flonase nasal spray also contains microcrystalline cellulose and carboxymethylcellulose sodium, dextrose, 0.02% w/w benzalkonium chloride, polysorbate 80, and 0.25% w/w phenylethyl alcohol, and has a pH between 5 and 7.

Does anything in there look like it could have gluten in it to you? :blink:

What the (*#$! is phenylethyl alcohol anyway?

Please help if you can!!

Flonase is on this site's gluten-free Drugs list, so I would speculate that your heartburn is from somewhere else. The acidic pH of the Flonase might be causing it, but the dosage is so slight that I doubt it. (Of course, Orange juice is highly acidic; I can't drink citrus at night for the same reason. How about switching to Grape Juice? :) )

      Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic.       Ibuprofen

      Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce. Something is making my pain so much worse I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs. Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever...

Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
