Increased Risk Of Colon Cancer ?

Anyone know of any studies that show that celiac patients have an increased risk of colon cancer ?? I have heard that there is an increased risk of small bowel cancer, but am also very interested in colon cancer risks. Both of my boys have celiac disease, and one of them also had 70 % of his small intestines removed after he had NEC (severe bowel infection, after a reaction to milk based formula) as a newborn. On his initial positive biopsy for celiac, they found increased lymphocytes. His subsequent biopsy showed an improvement.

My husband also had the familial polyposis gene (colon cancer) and has a very strong family history of colon cancer and deaths from it. My husband has polyps that he has regular colonoscopies for. My son with most of his intestines gone has all the markers for having the colon cancer gene also :( .

He was only recently diagnosed (9 months ago) and is 7-1/2 yrs old. He obviously had been exposed to a lot of gluten, and it concerns me what increased risk he may be at for developing colon cancer. He has already had a colonoscopy, with no polyps found, yet and hopefully never will be found.

Any info/studies would be appreciated. I am also praying that the risk diminished, or is even negated once the patient is gluten free.

thanks

Lorraine

Thanks for your response, I have seen that link before. I wrote to one of the drs who wrote one of the articles, and he said my son was unique, so not too many out there like him I guess.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
