Nystatin Or Garlic Extract For Candida?

Okay, I had strange symptoms that showed up all of a sudden when I started, then stopped, taking fish oil. I get random headaches, random fatigue, and other nonsense. I don't want to get into all the details.

And I tried cutting back on fruit sugar and saw some improvement, and basically, well, I think I might have candida. Or something at least.

Someone said they took Nystatin and without even going on the anti-candida diet, it killed the candida. I'm thinking of trying either that or garlic. I assume I'll hate the taste of garlic, but I might buy a few bulbs soon, maybe even tonight.

Anyone here know much about Nystatin or garlic for treating candida? How about garlic extract or garlic capsules? I can't swallow pills, so can the capsules be broken open? I am also intolerant to casein, so they can't have milk.

Where would I go to buy such things? Would a local GNC possibly sell them?

I'm probably the one who said I successfully treated (eliminated) my candida with Nystatin, without following an anticandida diet. HOWEVER, I took a stool test to diagnose Candida. I didn't just guess from my symptoms that I might have that fungus. My stool test (Microbial Ecology Profile processed by Metametrix Labs) also indicated which drugs and/or botanicals could effectively kill my specific strain of candida. My candida was sensitive to nystatin and caprylic acid (among other things). I had used caprylic acid to treat 2 previous diagnose bacterial infections (Klebsiella and Enterobacter Cloacae). I didn't like CA's side effects. Also I could get Nystatin inexpensively through my HMO. So I opted for Nystatin. 3 subsequent stool tests were clear of candida.

If you suspect candida, find a naturopath who will sell you a stool test through a qualified lab to diagnose whatever is causing your intestinal symptoms. You could have candida or an opportunistic or pathogenic bacteria or even a parasite. Treating a gut bug without a specific diagnosis is really chancey. You may correctly guess what you have and what can treat that or you may spend years chasing symptoms with herbal or drug treatments, without really knowing what you have or how to treat it. (I've read many stories about people who never tested for candida, but treated their symptoms, which plague them for months and years.)

Garlic can supposedly cure a ton of things. It's antifungal, antibiotic, and probiotic (refills good bacteria) all at once. I am definitely thinking of trying it and seeing if something good happens, since it's not really supposed to have side effects.

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.

It's great to hear that eliminating gluten has helped alleviate symptoms like eye burning, which is a significant and positive change. The first and most important step is to ensure you're consuming enough protein throughout the day to support muscle repair and growth, which can be challenging with a busy schedule. Since you're already physically active at work, adding focused strength training just 2-3 times per week can make a major difference. Bodyweight exercises like squats, push-ups (modified if needed), and lunges, or using resistance bands at home, are excellent, efficient places to start. Remember, consistency with these short sessions and prioritizing post-workout recovery, including good sleep and hydration, are just as crucial as the workouts themselves. It's a smart, gradual process at any age.

Trader Joe's carries a good variety of affordable gluten-free foods like bagels, hamburger buns, pasta, etc. I like Franz Gluten Free bread, which is available at my local Costco. Food For Life and Little Northern Bakehouse (advertisers here) also make excellent gluten-free breads. Costco also sells gluten-free pizzas, crackers, gravy, etc.
