I'm in San Francisco, CA, and realize now that I should be followed at least to some degree by a Celiac-specializing doctor, to, if nothing else, get the basic blood work/testing, and get 'on track' with this very insidious and damaging condition.

Can anybody help me with this? Thank you in advance!!

Andrew

Andrew-

I recommend Dr. Jeffrey Aron at Pacific Health. After 2 other GI doctors basically told me my stomach pain and inability to sleep for more than 90 minutes without getting up to pee where psychosomatic because my blood tests said I was healthy, I was relieved to find Dr. Aron. This guy actually listens and is willing to spend as much time as you need to discuss your symptoms, possible causes, and the pros and cons of different tests you might undertake.

He did diagnose me with celiac, and although going off wheat for 5 months has improved but not cured my symptoms, I'm standing by. When I do go back to a Dr., I'll go to Dr. Aron first.

Good luck!

Eric

Sorry, I think I got you mixed up with another poster.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.

I tend to agree with RMJ. Your doc took the reasonable and practical approach to diagnosis. All things considered, it was the right way to go. However, if you have first degree relatives that show signs of possible celiac disease, urge them to get formally tested before they start the gluten free diet.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.
